Re: Fall Marathon Trainers Thread - Week of July 23
Well, things down here are still hot and sticky. Legs are doing pretty good although I have this stupid plantar's wart that's getting better, but still is kinda bugging me. Got another treatment Tuesday, so it's almost gone today.

Anyhow, enough about feet:

M: am: 8M EZ (8:20)+core/weights; pm: 8M EZ (8:02)
T: am: 18x:45 on/2:15 off (7:18), 13.1M; pm: 7M EZ (8:17)
W: 14M Trail w/ lots of hills; f'ed up on my watch, so need read.
R: am: 5M Jog (9:20) +Core/weights; pm: 5M Jog (9:00)
F: 4M EZ w/ 6x:20 pick-ups, (8:05)
SA: am: 4M super slow *** jog (:9:20), pm: 5K race, 17:46, wu/cd, 9.6M
SU: 16.3 EZ to Mod--first 6M@8:30, next 10@7:40

Tot: 94M

Well, the race was fine, all things considered: I just wanted to get a rough sense of fitness--not looking to PR--thus no real taper and longish warm-up. Plus, it was 95 degrees w/ 80% humidity, so I'm relatively happy. Bodes well for more important fall races, especially with the miles continuing to be put in.

Hope all your weeks went well. Dr. Wu, good to luck to you today!!!

Re: Fall Marathon Trainers Thread - Week of July 23
runninlaw, how 'bout that mile race? I'm looking forward to the report.

M: AM 7.25mi (8:58), PM 4mi (9:00)
T: AM 7.25mi incl 1xmile (6:11), 2x800 (2:59), 2x400 (87s); 400 rest for mile/800s, 200 rest between 400s. PM 3.25 (9:19), guess who's tired
W: 8mi (9:22)
R: AM 10mi (8:19) incl 2xmile@6:47. PM 3.6 untimed but slow w/xc girls
F: AM 11.5mi (8:56) w/friends on a disused bridge; slow start, fast
finish, nice little quarter-mile hills. PM 3.5mi (9:10)
Sa: 7mi (8:33)
Su: 15mi (7:37) w/Sunday-run crew, hot & humid. 1st 10mi @7:25 and then a 5-mile slog.

total: 80.3 miles

The first part of the week was miraculously cooler and less humid, but by Wednesday it was July-in-Florida again. During this morning's run, when we stopped for water I'd actually feel the sweat well up and burst through my skin, kind of like reverse raindrops.

Re: Fall Marathon Trainers Thread - Week of July 23
I had a good week, except for today's run, which was a complete struggle with an "untimely end." As much as I'd like to believe I can have "normal" weekends and also train seriously for my race, reality shows that being on my feet all day Sat., eating poorly, and sleeping too late to catch the cool part of the day -- just doesn't add up to a happy long run Sunday morning. How many times do I have to learn this lesson? Seems like once every training cycle...

Oh well. Whining complete, I now present my otherwise happy week:

Mon 6.87 mi easy + 20 min wts
Tues 10.64 hard + 15 min wts
Weds 4.87 easy
Thurs 10.33 moderate-hard + 20 wts
Fri 7.2 moderate
Sat - off
Sun 13 mi - miserable
total 52.91 miles

Me too!! Can't wait!

I had a pretty good week. Took me a couple of days to get back to rights after SUnday's race, but I'm feeling back to normal now. No problems.

Su: AM 10 including 5 mile race you already know about. PM very easy 3.5 mile trot to shake the legs out.

Mo--easy 7 (forgot my watch at home)

Tu--14 miles (8:43). I very intelligently ran the first half on mushy very hill trails and was having trouble cracking 9:00 pace. I switched to the roads for the last half and I think I warmed up at about mile 12! By the end I felt pretty good and my pace was much closer to normal.

We--easy 3.5 trot.

Th--7 (8:33)

Fr--2 mi w/u including 4 x 30 seconds at 5k effort. THen 4 x 1200 (goal=4:45) actual: 4:38, 4:44, 4:44, 4:45 (took me one rep to adjust to the new pace). Then 4 x 200 (goal = 40) actual: 38, 40, 39, 38. Then 2 mile c/d.

Sa-- easy 7 (8:38)

Total: 60.5

Good weeks all!!!!

M - 1:10 ~ 10 + drills
T - :15 ~ 2
W - :15 w.u. 2x 1-K (3:31, 3:25) :07 c.d.
Th - :37 ~ 5
F - off
St - 1:00 ~ 8
Sn - 1:29 ~ 12

Tot. 41

For the second week in a row my legs just felt dead. I had planned to do at least 5 1-K repeats on Wed. but in the middle of the third one I was already so spent I knew going on would just wear me down more. The run on the weekend were a bit better after taking a day off so hopefully that was all I needed

Re: Fall Marathon Trainers Thread - Week of July 23
You guys are awesome as usual
.
Monday- 5K race-felt good but glad the series is over
Wednesday- 8 miles easy ~8:20 pace
Thursday- Hill workout- Kicked my butt
Saturday- 8 mile with team (fall back week) 8:15 pace
Sunday- 6.5 easy on an upcoming half mary course 8:47 pace

Legs are feeling great! Long runs finally start to get "long" this Saturday with a 13 miler.

Any advice on running long then driving for ~6 hours; I am travelling the next 2 Saturdays on vacation and I have a 13 and a 14 miler both days.

Give race reports!!!!

Goal: Sacramento Cowtown (sub-3)
Week 4/15 Benji Durden Marathon Plan

Great race tusca...phenomenal time considering your high mileage week. I wish I had your speed. Up and down week for me.

M - 0:33 min
T - 22 wup/wdn; 7 hills (1/4 mile)
Started at 8.2 @ 5.0% grade. Did each rep at a progressive pace. 8.2 to 8.7 for the 7th. HR started at 148. Hit 155 on the last rep. Still felt in total control. Not pressing by any means. PM 0:35.
W - 0:35
T - 22 wup/wdn; 3(6t/2e)
Rep 1 @ 6:27 pace; Rep 2 @ 6:23; Rep 3 @ 6:19. Funny, but the 3rd rep was the most pleasant. HR started at 146 and ended at 155 during the last rep. Averaged around 150/151 for the 3 reps. Felt really strong on the cool down. Did some Marathon Pace (6:44) and it felt like a quick jog. Had some problems with my foot. Ran in my racing flats, and I realized through the course of the workout that my foot cannot take the lack of cushioning. Good that I figured that out now versus during my planned race. Going to run Sunday's run in my cushioned trainers. PM 0:35.
F - 0:32
S - 0:35
S - 2.2 mile wup (17:05) followed by 5 mile XC race. Finished in 31:30. Ran more of a hard tempo than flat out. Always felt like I had an extra gear. HR was at 155. Felt aerobic, no redlining. Pleased since it was my first race effort since December of last year. I am not a short distance runner though. My pain tolerance is just not there anymore at age 40+. I guess I am kind of a wimp. Maybe I could improve on my shorter distances if I ever decided to specifically train for them. My next race is in 4 weeks so I will be anxious to see if I can improve. 3 mile wdn (22:45).

Total miles ~ 50+

Way to go everybody. Keep it going. Fall will be here before we know it...

Re: Fall Marathon Trainers Thread - Week of July 23
Hello everyone!! hope everybodys enjoying training as much as me. Nice recovery week here with a race for a fitness gauge.

Monday-5 miles jogging, legs ****(9:58)+Pm weights and core
Tuesday-Off and I mean OFF
Wed-11 miles(8:47)-getting better
thursday-weights and core
friday-5 miles jogging(9:45)
saturday-6 w/ striders effortless(8:25)
Sunday-8k race(34:40 for 10'th place)- hot and humid

I achieved the weeks goal of getting my recovery in. end of last week and I was a walking crab(says my wife). when I race during marathon training I go more my how I feel rather than my finishing time. today in the race I felt extreamly strong. Heat didn't seem to bother me all that much. Last 6 weeks I developed a dynamic weight training program along with plyo's and I can see it paying off. the race was a hilly course(as they all are where I live)and even trying to hold back I ganied most of my time on my hills. I had this urge on every hill to explode with every stride. It's weird when you can actuall feel how anchillary training carries over. I guess when your jump squating 10x the resistance that you will ever have to handle during a race their isn't much going to challenge you. Their was no muscle fatigue. I quickly went from around 20'th to 10'th place on a hill within the last 1k. Negatice splits throughout and I'm still feling strong enough to resume regular training. It's days like today that make it all worth it.

Happy training all!!!

Re: Fall Marathon Trainers Thread - Week of July 23
77.6 miles last week. I had my first tempo run of the season. It went well. I am getting into the meat of the program so I guess things are going well for me right now. Fun times ahead.
