Hey Runninlaw:

I too have had some recent new "shoe" issues: to make a long story short, I tried a new brand of Shox and about a hundred miles into the shoe, my R knee and calf was killing me and I got kind of "limpy". Been a few days since I've used them, and viola, the pain has decreased and the calf ache is gone. Stupid shoes...

Anyhow,:

M: am: 8M EZ+core/weights; pm: 8M EZ (8:15)
T: am: 3x3x250m Hills, 12.5M (8:10); pm: 6M EZ (8:15)
W: 15M Trail run of ***. clibm of 1800 ft. Hard as ****: 2:07:00 (like an 8:30P).
R: 4.5M jog on soccer fields (9:20)+40:00 core/weights
F: am: 7x2000m@MP, 400m Jog (8:10>8:00 ints), 13.5M; pm: 6M
SA: am: 8M EZ (8:20); pm: 7.5M EZ indoors (7:30)+50:00 of med ball/core work
SU: 17M in 2:15:50 (8:00P) on Forest Roads where bugs ate me alive.

Tot: 106 and change...

Nice weeks

Runninlaw & Tuscaloosa - There may be a better shoes for me, but I started with the asics 1060s and they worked fine, so I have been with the series ever since - No issues - No experimenting (I had bought 10 pair of the 1100s - I am still trying to chew through them)

My goal for the week was 100 miles on main run of the day and 130 total with recovery runs - I will post main run

M - 10 Easy
T - 16 with 4x4:45 @ I pace
W - 10 Easy (1 mile FF - Fast Finish)
TH - 20 with 5 @ T pace (at end of run)
F - 10 Easy
SA - 18 Easy(2 mile FF)
SU - 16 Easy

100 miles on main runs and 36 on 7 recovery runs for a total of 137 miles - Tuesday I was dehydrated a little and it was a rough one, but the rest of the week went well -

Good running to all -

zoomharp - Way to pull it out in the face of adversity - Its all relative.

When I run its "me" time - I relax, contemplate life, pray - today I was just kindof cruising along - feeling like I was out for a Sunday drive - relaxing, enjoyable - I was tempted to keep running, but all good things must come to an end. Its what I chose to do with my time.

M-4.2 EZ plus 4 x 200 hard

T- 14 (1st 2/3 easy, finished with 3.5m, then 1.5m 1/2 MP segments)

W- 4.2 EZ with 4 x strides (2 uphill, 1 down, 1 flat)

Th- 12.5 (7:42 avg), easy 1st half, 2m @ 7:30, .6m @ 8:20, 1.1m @ 6:36, 1.4m @ 8:25, 1m @ 6:17

Fr- 4.2 EZ with 4 x strides (2 uphill, 1 down, 1 flat)

Sat- 18 (13 in foothill trails up/down, tough; 5 streets, finished last 1.5 mile 6:30 pace).
3 mile easy recovery jog 2 hours after 18 miler (run with kids)

Total: 60.3

Just trying to build up the miles. Feeling okay considering the jump in mileage 39, 47, 60 last three weeks going from a puny maintenance of 20-30 mpw. I guess I'll see in 2-3 weeks if this "experiment" of cramming for a marathon will work... I'll either break down/get injured, or get in shape quickly. The 100 mpw club members here are something else. Maybe one of these years I'll use a vacation week and try to hit 100 just once....

Whats with the new shoes this week? I just upgraded my old DS trainer 11's to the 12's. Well I'm working them in anyway. Still in the 11's but I figure I better get used to a shoe in case my 11's die before the big day. Thats all I need is shoe issues 4 weeks out if ya feel what I'm sayin. Anyways I did 1 run in them and I guess they felt good...too soonto tell.

Anyways here's my week following a recovery week-

M-weights and core
T-6 jogging(9:20)w/ light striders
W-8.53 aerobic(9:02) planned longer but ran out of time
TH-13 aerobic progression(9:02)
F-core stability workout
S-5 miles jogging on rock trail(11:13)
SU- 16 miles(8:05) w/ 12@ goal marathon pace(7:45)-evaulation run

Week went well. Planning on starting the next phase soon as todays run gives me the OK. Just a few more stamina workouts and I should be good to go. I'm glad that i made it through the base and stamina phases good. Aerobic capacity training for me is a walk in the park once I got the endurance and stamina in the bag. Finally got my strength and power where I want it to be so I'm planning on cutting wayyy back on weight training(phew, thank goodness). Intense intervals will take care of my fast twitch guys.

Anyways it's great too see everyone's training. It keeps me motivated. I sure thought marathon training would be easier. Boy was I wrong. I'm not even doing half of what some of you are so it's a great motivator to read's yalls training.

Looks like some good training from this group this past week.

For me this was sort of a cutback week, mainly due to an atypical work situation, but I needed the reset, I think. I still got some quality in, and I feel better than I did this time last week.

M: AM 7mi (8:46), PM 3mi (9:23) just dead, ugh
T: 9mi (9:17)
W: 9mi incl 5x800 on the road w/short recoveries, not stellar (avg 3:07)
R: AM 7mi (9:08) in hard rain, PM 4mi (8:46)
F: AM 12mi (8:19) progression, PM 3mi (8:46)
Sa: 11mi (7:41) with friends
Su: 7mi (8:34) after overnight shift

total: 72 miles

RFR:

I asked this last week, but maybe you didn't get it or didn't have a chance to respond. Curious: on your general aerobic runs when you're MPW is 100=>, what's your avg. pace?

I'm finding mine is kinda slow, though not I'm not too bothered by it...

Good training weeks, indeed! Nice job guys!

Joplus--I love how your cut-back is still more than my heaviest week ever!

I had an up and down week. Started up, but I think I started to feel invincible which lead me to do stupid stuff like run way too fast in some seriously ridiculously hot weather. It was in the 90's for the better part of the week and humid and that plus the increase in mileage just got to me.

Su--Great long run! 15 miles (7:43 avg) Ran the first 12 between 7:55-7:45 and the last three in 7:00, 6:57, 6:53. Felt fantastic even in the heat and humidity!

Mo-easy 4 (8:28)

Tu-Long tempo: 4 mi w/u, 5 @ goal 7:01 (6:48, 6:57, 7:02, 6:56, 6:52). 2 mi c/d including 8 x 100 strides. It was really hot and humid so the few seconds under pace were extra stupid!

We-8 (8:31) I couldn't bear to wake up to run in the morning and I had somewhere to be after work, so the only time I could get it in was lunchtime. The heat index was 104! I ran down town in the blazing sun on blacktopped roads. ****, I tell you!

Th--9 (8:36) I ran in the woods on the trails and it was so much nicer than Wednesday!

Fr--AM 5 (8:38); PM A horrible track workout in 90+ degree heat on a black track. Yuck! 3 mi w/u inc 4 x 150 strides, 6 x 1k @ goal 3:57 jogged 200m recovery (Actual: 4:01, 4:05, 4:06, 4:03, 4:05--I know! But that was the best I could do. My heart was beating out of my chest and my legs just wouldn't go faster without making me puke!) ; 6 x 100 @ goal 20 jogged 100m recovery (actual: 20, 21, 21, 21, 21, 21) 2 mi c/d.

Sa--Super easy 8 on the trails (8:44)

Total: 70

Good weeks everyone!!

Hi all, great running everyone! Here was my week:

M: 50mins trails
T: 8 mi - 6 @ 6:20, +1mi wmup, 1mi cldwn
W: 6mi @ 8:45
T: 6 mi @ 9:00
F: 18mi @ 8:00
S: OFF
S: 6 @ 8:00

I have a trail half marathon coming up next Sunday, so cut back a little on the volume. I did my long run on Friday so I would have a couple extra days to recover. It also meant I could run it on part of my marathon course before work. However, this also meant I had to get up at 4:20 am

I plan on taking this week very easy in prep for the trail race. It is an insane course, but also one of my favorite races -- I can't wait! Though, I am completely paranoid that I will break a leg or something and ruin my goal marathon...

F - Rest

Goal: Sacramento Cowtown (sub-3)
Week 5/15 Benji Durden Marathon Plan

Weird week for me as I was out of town from Thursday to Sunday. I always enjoy running in new places and seeing new things. My main concern was getting my Long Run in somehow. Woke up early Saturday while everyone was sleeping. I had 2 hours 45 min scheduled (20+ miles). Noticed about 10 minutes into the run that my Garmin was fading out. It was completely gone at 15 minutes. This was on a fresh charge too. Not the best scenario. Running in a foreign place with no watch nor mile estimates. About 20 minutes into the run I hit my first noticeable Mile Marker on Hwy 101 on the Oregon Coast. From there I did eight miles out and eight mile back. Figured I did approximately 6 additional mile on that, giving me a total of 22. Looking at the clock when I got back, I was gone over 3 hours. Pretty happy with the way I felt aerobically. Strong like I could have gone for another hour, but I am still having problems with my foot. Got real numb about 2:15 into the run and was causing some problems. Still don't know if it is some sort of nerve entrapment or sciatic related. Going to see a neuro soon (have a call back today). Hopefully I get a nerve conduction test / EMG and we can find out what the **** is going on. Marathon is in doubt at this point. Anyway, here was the rest of the week.

M - 40 min
T - AM 22 min wup + 8 x 1/4 mile hill repeats (4.0% grade) @ tempo pace (6:20 effort) + 20 min wdn PM 36 min
W - 35 min (elliptical) still a little sore from yesterday. Residual fatigue from Sunday's race + ART Therapy
T - Tempo Run 24 wup/22 wdn; 4(5t/1e)
F - 35 min
S - 3:00 (22 miles) Long Run. Oregon Coast. Reminded me of the Big Sur Marathon. A lot of up and down hills.
S - 35 min

Keeping my fingers crossed. I am having so much fun with the training. If I can just get my ailment taken care of, I will be thrilled. Hopefully it is nothing serious.

Last week I closed on my new house, had the worst day of my worklife, and had a very bad reaction to a very hot run. It was kind of a rollercoaster week. I'm not sure what happened on Thursday?s 10, but it wasn't good. It was really hot and humid, but not atypical. Anyway, I really had to gut it out to keep in my desired pace range. When I got home, I was so cold in the AC that I had to wrap up in a blanket. Furthermore, I had no appetite at all. The following day I felt sort of hung over. I didn't have a headache but I just felt drained and sorta sick. Anyway, I felt good enough to do my LR (only 14 for me at this point) on Saturday, though I took it easy and didn't bring my watch. I'm feeling fully recovered today. Last week:
Monday -- Off
Tuesday -- 8 with 4@ tempo of 7:00
Wednesday -- 4 recovery
Thrusday -- 10 general
Friday -- Off
Saturday -- 14
Sunday -- 4

Total: 40.

Good traing all.
