Thanks for the reply. Heck 8000 this was about the number in the ING Ottawa HM (alone) this past May and it was horrible. Even though the FM started an hour before the HM both courses merged and the field was crowded from beginning to end.

I am shooting for a 3:10 finish wanted to do sub 3:00 but I decided to be conservative. Do you think the field will be crowded and for approximately how long. I hate to have to keep running around people. In Ottawa it was like a zoo. It definitely affected my time and did not make for the most pleasant race

Ewart -

Start where you belong - How many people run sub 7:00 mile pace for the 1/2 and full based upon last years results - Start about there in the chute. It will still be crowded the 1st mile, but make sure you relax. Better to run a 7:30 1st mile then to weave in and out wasting energy.

Grandmas has @ 7,000 finishers - I never had a problem if I started where I belonged. Funny though, they have estimated finish times posted on side of chute. To start where I belonged - I had to start with the 2:30 group instead of the 2:45 group. I had a few hundred ahead of me, but was on pace 1st mile.

My week:

M: 8 Easy
Tu: 9.5 w/ 5.5 at 6:35 (LT)
W: 5.7 Easy
Th: 12.6 w/ 5 at 7:09 (MP-ish)
F: off
Sa: 6 Easy
Su: 20 (too slow)
Total: 61.8

This was my highest total to date, mostly because I ran 6 days this week whereas I usually run 5 days. Sunday's long run was uninspired. It was my last day of vacation and I didn't feel like doing it. I have bumped up my mileage over the last 7 weeks to the 50-55 mpw range. I have been extemely slow, something that worries me. I will focus on my speed over the next month. More long tempos (5+ miles) as well as a few long track intervals (3/4 to 1 mile repeats). I need to be disciplined on my long runs to keep the pace up (as well as do the last miles at MP).

Runninlaw,

My daughter kicked a night lite off her changing table; it landed on my toe, bounced, and broke it. Thus, if the patellar issues didn't do me in, this has: I'm in a boot. THUS, take me off the rotation for Fall marathon.

Thanks,

Tusca

Tough to say, in past years it's opened up after the first couple of km, but there were significantly fewer runners then. In Boston this year it took 4 miles before things had opened up enough for me to get to a water station. I was about 30 seconds slower than usual in the first mile, but got back on pace after 4-5 miles. It's not necessarily a bad thing to go out a little slower than goal pace in a marathon anyway. I guess we'll find out soon.

Dude that sucks!!

The good lord wants you to take time off! I guess we can't cheat the devine plan.

This reminds me of a lyric from one of my favorite songs-

"If the thunder don't get ya than the lightning will"
~Jerry Garcia

Good Luck buddy. The roads will await you.

That settles it, I'm never having children now. Ungrateful little nightlight-kicking...

Really sorry to hear this, Tusca.

Thanks guys. Cosmic indeed. But I also believe things--good or bad--happen for the reason. Thus, in a weird way, it probably was for the best. This will give me some down time (if things go well, boot comes off in two weeks), review my logs to see where things broke down, and then make changes accordingly.

Joplus: I was really made for about 3 seconds, but then she just started babbling, and I thought, well, all right, you're cute, I guess I'll keep you around
