Ideal Training/Marathon Shoe....

Hi all,
I know there is probably another forum to post this on, but I don't want to screw things up by buying the wrong shoe and figured you all might be able to help me out.

I am at mid- point of training for my Fall marathon and am running all single digit runs on Gel Nimbus VIII (150+ miles) and my double- digit runs on the Pegasus 2006 (250+ miles). I did 11 miles this morning in the Pegasus and had pain in my lower shins and hips. Don't know if it is the shoes, but think I need to get looking and I hear the Pegasus 2007 are not so hot.

I am a 30 y/o male at 135 lbs. with normal arch and neutral gait and used to do all my long runs on the Adidas Supernova Cushion..until the 2005 model gave me serious blisters along with the fact that my Pegasus 2006 took me at least 50+ miles to break in.

Any help? Is the Supernova Cushion for '07 any better? Any thoughts on the Waverider 10's? Just looking for good cushioning and stability without the weight.

Thanks!

Re: Ideal Training/Marathon Shoe....
Shoe fit is too individualized to be able to give much real applicable advice to someone over the internet. Whether or not you'll get blisters in a particular pair of shoes can vary from one pair to the other. Also one that gives my feet blisters might not give you any blisters, and vice versa.

For most of my training I alternate between the Peg 2006 and Wave Rider 10, but the 2 shoes are not very similar. The Pegs are a lot stiffer and heavy, whereas the Riders are much lighter and flexible. There is a small measure of stability in the Rider due to the size of the plastic wave plate but not much. Some people don't like the forefoot cushioning, but personally I feel it holds up for 400 to 450 miles, and I use them for about 500 miles. For comparison purposes, I'm a guy 5'6" and 135 lbs.

I have a friend who really likes the Supernova Cushions, so why not try them on at a local store? If you like the Asics Nimbus, then the Asics Cumulus might be close, it's a lighter neutral shoe whereas the Nimbus is supposed to be the more tank-like neutral shoe in their line. An alternative to the Nike Pegs, you might try the Nike Max Motos which are supposed to be a somewhat similar neutral shoe. While I haven't tried the 2007 Pegs, they look good to me, a little lighter than the heavy 2006 but supposedly very high insulation from the feel of the road (which some people hate).

Gazelle, did you hit up Rhode Runner in Providence?

Not sure what I would do in your situation but running a 20 in new shoes seems iffy but maybe better than running it in dead shoes...
