F - :52 ~7
St - :37 ~5

Very odd week as I was going into the peak week of the Phiz 12/55 program, but at the start of my first mid- week 11/12 miler, had ankle pain that centralized in the peroneal tendon. Iced and ran my miles for the remainder of the week being pretty cautious...

M- Rest
T- 5 Miles @ 7:30/mi
W- 11.25 Miles @ 8:30/mi (did not push HMP test as ankle was very sore)
T- Rest
F- 11.25 Miles @ 8:45/mi (Easy)
S- 5.25 @ 8:30/mi (Easy)
S- 20.75 Miles @ 8:30/mi (11@ 9:00/mi, 10.75 @ 8:00/mi)

Total: 53.5 miles

In summary, I bought a heel insert for my shoes and NO ankle pain on my long run. I suspect the heel cushioning in my shoe was going and was evident in my early- week run. Running my long run with negative splits with no pain was super encouraging as I move into some quality workouts in the coming weeks.

Looks like there were some pretty good weeks out there for most of you. Hope you all have a good week!

TSG, sorry you didn't meet your expectations, but it sounds like a great time given the conditions. I know I would be dying. Hard to draw anything definite from that. But you will probably have at least one more tune-up race, right?

Penikese, first half in 1:30:40 - pretty impressive! But yeah, not consistent with your LT pace. But again, hot, humid, and hilly? As long as your marathon isn't, I would think 3:10 would be conservative. Is this also your first marathon?

Sounds like I was the lucky one with weather for my half last week.

I feel like the laggard in this group again: 47 miles. I keep telling myself, I decided that 6 days/week just would not work with my schedule this time around, and Pfitz 55 + weight loss would be good enough... half time says yes... we shall see!

M: off
Tu: 8 w/ 5x600 @ 6:12 pace. Felt good. 600s are such a relief. (4x1200 next week, ugh.)
W: not enough sleep, put off today's 11
Th: 11 (scheduled off day)
F: scheduled recovery, ran out of time
Sa: 6 recovery. Wiped me out, for some reason. Extremely humid.
Su: 22 @ 8:15. Last long run before Portland (10/7)!

Total: 47 miles

I was trepidatious about the 22. It was pouring rain all day, then mid-afternoon the forecast changed to evening thunderstorms. Great. But when I stepped out the door the rain tapered to a light mist, and stayed that way most of the run. Perfect conditions, really! I felt great the whole way. Good for my confidence.

Su: no run, Cycle 14
M: 7.5 easy on trails
Tu: 8.5, with 5 miles T-pace (2x 2.5 mi; with a 3 min rest), & Cycle 10
W: 4 easy
Th: rest
F: rest
Sa: 16.5 miles trails, with 13.5 in relay race

Totals: Run 36.5, Cycle 24

An light and erratic week. Not exactly what I wanted with 4 weeks to go, but not sweating it. Work got in the way for several days this week, but I don't think I lost much by getting the two quality workouts for the week.

Tue- Got to the group run late--so opted for my T-pace workout on the track. Though I ran solo, there was at least 45 runners on the track to provide a positive vibe. Five miles of T = 6:25.

Sat: Dances with Dirt trail 5-person relay (3 legs each.) Ran legs of 6.1, 3.25, and 4.1 miles (legs #4, 8, and 15.) Not used to this type of running. The effort was pretty much three separate tempo runs. Since I took Thursday and Friday off, I probably blasted though my first leg a bit too fast. Pinckney State Park (near Ann Arbor, MI) offered some nice single-track trail and I'm not used to racing faster than ultra-pace on such terrain. The quads are more sore than I want today, but I can and will deal with it.

Four weeks (28 days) to go to race day. I'm going to keep it intense until about 10 days out.

68.7 miles
--Good 14 mile run with 10 at MP
--Tempo run horrible (hot), had to break 45 min. planned total LT time into 22, 12, 12
Slog it out slooow! run up and over the mtns. and back for long run leg hamburger by end. Felt like a 3 hour session doing leg lifts. Hope it built some strength.

Last week was mid 40's bad week as work keeps getting in the way of my 'second job' of running.

I'm not on track but am healthy so will go ahead and run in a month. Long runs are lacking. LT work has been okay, VO2 nearly non-existent. Yee haw! Looking forward to some pain...

Made it through my peak training week (weekly and single run PRs) mostly in tact (left achilles is feeling funny but should be fine).

M - Rest
T - 6.04 miles EZ
W - 12 miles @ 7:58 pace including 2 miles (8 and 9) @ 7:04
Th - Rest
F - 12 miles @ 8:27
Sa - 5.06 miles EZ
Su - 20 miles @ 8:55

Total - 55.1

Wednesday was supposed to include 7 miles at tempo but after running the 15 with 12 @ MP on the previous Sunday I wasn't about to push my luck. Felt strong the whole run and dropped down for 2 miles at tempo then shut it down to save some for the rest of the week.

I had hoped to be closer to 8:30 on my 20 miler but the route was very hilly, the humidity was 99%, and I ran out of water (planned to stop for a bottle of water at what I thought was a 24 hour CVS but it was closed at 6 a.m.). Also, I felt like I was being pretty conservative because I was worried about being able to finish. I feel like I will be able to run a little faster a little earlier in my next 20 miler because now I know I can make the distance.

Only 5 weeks to go!!!

Runninlaw, can you change my goal time to 3:15:59 which is the BQ for my age. Thx!

Very good race Loopy. I have not read your report yet, but will do so after I get some coffee in me. OK week for me. With all of the nagging issues I have been dealing with I kind of wish I could just run the marathon next weekend and get it over with...I am still not 100% sure I am going to make it to the starting line unscathed. Question for runninginlaw? What was the extent of your hip problem? I just came down with some nagging pain in my left hip where my upper quad meet the groin area, at the bend in the leg. It hurts when I start out but seems to get better once it has loosened up. I am trying to ice it and have been pumping the Vitamin I, but it has stayed about the same. No improvement yet. I think my hard / easy approach to training is keeping me above water, but I don't know for how much longer. As a result, I may end up doing a much more "aggressive" taper in the next 4 weeks.

Week 10 of 15 Benji Durden Plan

Mon - 0:40 min
Tue - AM 6 x 1/2M @ 10K pace (6:07) + 2 x 1/4M @ 5K pace (5:52) PM 55 min
Wed - 0:35 min
Thr - AM Tempo 3(5t/1e) PM 57 min
Fri - REST
Sat - Long Run 3:10 (24 miles +). One of my best long runs ever. Heart rate stayed low 125. One of those runs where I felt I could have gone on forever. Hip pain a little bothersome at first, but was OK after about 4 miles. I was supposed to do this run 3 weeks out, but since I will be out of town next weekend, I pushed it up.
Sun - 0:38 min

Tot ~ 68 miles. My highest week in this cycle. Hopefully I can get in another 65 + miles this week and start to cut back.

Thanks for the response. I have been doing yoga once a week which seems to help a bit. Also using the foam roller. If things start to get worse, I may take more rest days between workouts and make my hard days longer to make up for the down time...We'll see. This has been my most challenging marathon prep to date.
