Anyone training for the IronGirl in Atlanta June 27th?

On June 27th the Aflac Iron Girl Sprint Triathlon will be held at Lake Lanier. This event is 1/3 mile swim/ 18 mile bike / 3 mile run, for females only. You had to sign up in early January for this because it filled up in two weeks. If you are a triathlon newbie, there is also a sprint triathon for beginners at Lake Lanier on June 5th and 6th. It is 1/4 mi: 12 mi: 3 mi over virtually the same course.
I'd be interested in hearing from anyone else who is training for either of these races, so we can compare notes and cheer each other on.

Are you having fun yet? Actually- I've got the "MyFirstTri" at Lake Lanier 3 weeks earlier for a dry run on virtually the same course. Still weak on my bike training. I hear that the T1 transition to the bike rack is a long run. Yek - in bare feet.
I'm very slow in each segment, so see me at the end of the pack. Just hope they start older ladies early so I won't be alone on the course.

haha- i'm not even sure that i'm going to be able to complete each section of the course...at this point, i'm really doing all that i can do with my training. so i guess i will either be able to finish or i won't...my goal is to finish (as opposed to any times or anything), but i have to admit that i'm getting kind of tired... ![]()
i really hope that i can do it!

i'm doing the first tri on june 5th. if i have a good time maybe i'll do the irongirl! i suck at swimming-i can't breathe right, but i'll be okay on the bike/run. i'm pretty slow too, nothing competitive! my goal is to finish! that's all!
beginnertriathlete.com is a great resource. check it out!
i do most of my training at the chattahoochie trails / columns dr. off johnson's ferry road in marietta ( i swim at la fitness) if anyone else goes there let me know! would love a buddy!
I'll be at MyFirstTri on June 5th too, so I'll see you there. The June IronGirl is sold out, but if you enjoy the June 5th event, there are many other sprint triathlons around to "tri" out. HA

HA! sweet! good luck! that's a bummer that iron girl is sold out. maybe next year!
I am - for the Iron Girl. Boy is it creeping up fast!!
I am on the fence about doing the First Tri. I think it would be good practice but I think I need until the 27th to try a tri.
I feel like I'm still establishing the basics. I hope your training is going well. Know any magic tricks!?
Christine
How's your training going? I am getting nervous and excited! What is it seven weeks away?? Yikes!!!
Christine
My last post was to reply to balancingact22's. I am new to posting as well as tri training!
Christine
Christine-
Thanks for asking about my training. To be honest, it is starting to kick my butt a little bit. I have been doing 6 day a week training, but with a toddler and a full time job it is getting difficult. Luckily, I have a really supportive husband (who's a triathlete) and he keeps me positive. He thinks I can do it and I have moments when I think I can't....
How's training going for you currently?

Last month was a busy one, with lots of interference from "life" events that kept me from doing all the training I needed. Or maybe served as an excuse not to.
Anyway this week I am back on a full training schedule again, with 1-2 workouts per day. My big emphasis is increasing my time in the bike saddle, as that is my weakest sport. I swam 3 times this week, including two where I followed it with a bike ride within an hour. For two of my bike rides, I attempted a "brick", where I followed it with a short "run", that was very difficult to do with any speed. My butt is getting used to the saddle, but I find it is my arms that have the most problem when I lean on them while biking, so I need to build core and arm strength to minimize that. Yesterday I even made it to the gym for strength training. In the third week of May, I'll start working on my transition routines.
I am also way behind on wt loss during this year, and have only lost 10# instead of 40# planned by now (vs. 35# last fall). So I will be competing in the first tri above 200#, and will be lucky if I get much below that benchmark for the IronGirl at the end of June. I'm back to journaling my food intake, and trying to balance my food with my training needs.
Irony is that when they have Athena groups for tri's, women usually qualify down to 150#. HA!
I am looking forward to the First Tri, because I want to practice my transitions and get a look at (& ride) the bike course. My "hill skills" are very poor.

jasmine, do u know the first tri bike course? is it very hilly? what else do u know about it? i found some good videos on you tube about transitions - search the 'activedotcom' channel then search tri transitions.
The Lake Lanier MyFirstTri course starts and ends on islands in the lake, and the bike route goes out to the mainland. I read someones review that the course was "hilly" but these can't be too tall, can they, being on the lake?? Hopefully, momentum from one hill will last partially up the next, then its spin time. I also read that the run from the beach to the bike transition area is rather long and upslope, and I don't look forward to running barefoot very far. I compared the event route with satellite photos on Google Map. The start times for the event are going to be based not on age, but on expected swim time.
