Why Women Lose Weight?or Don?t

Cornell University recently conducted a study that examined how people's perceptions of their size and shape motivated them to lose weight. The authors assumed that the further someone was from a healthy weight, the more dissatisfied they would be with their body and the more pounds they would want to lose to achieve an ideal weight. However, the results suggest something else.

 

Although overweight and obese women expressed the greatest dissatisfaction with their bodies, the amount of weight they said they would "ideally" like to lose was so low that they would still be categorized as overweight, the researchers found.

    The majority of women that I train have one goal - to lose weight.  Weight gain / loss is like economics; caloric deficit dictates a rise or drop in the weight.  I think that at first they just want to stop gaining weight, rather then selecting a target weight that is in their mind unachievable. 

     

     

    A key phrase in understanding the psyche of the unhappily large woman

    is "I am looking to get more toned."  One of my mentors at UCLA told a

    group of young future fitness leaders that there is no such thing as

    tone.  Toning of muscle could best be described as hypertrophy, or

    increasing the density of muscle fibers, as opposed to increasing the

    overall size of the muscle (hyperplasia).  What people often mean to say by tone is to lose weight not gain muscular definition, and since this is ultimately impossible, here is the disconnect; as a person becomes stronger the muscle that replaces adipose tissue (fat) burns more calories, but muscle tissue is also heavier.  As people lose size they often do not lose weight after the initial 10-30 lbs.  In fact sometimes they gain weight.  So, in my eyes, this is an issue driven by media portrayal of ideal body image.  Circumference measurements are in my eyes the best way to show an overwieght woman that she is making progress, and the checking the scale everyday can actually be counterproductive.  Then again, I am a young male ectomorph, so I can only speak so much on this topic.

    Very complicated post, i am alyway confuse with Woman's Charater, Actually My GF reduece her 8 Kg is 15 days and at other side my sister not able to reduce a single gram. I know the reason...GF is very choosy she like to wear fit cloths so she tried lot.But my sister don't like to wear extra ordinary cloths and she don't want to look slim. I don't know the reason behind it. After all they are Women and Women are always complicated.

    Well Said there are majority of them who would like to lose weight because  of the good looking stereotypical guys who put supermodel women on a pedestal.


    But there are women like allenwarner said like his sister who don't care bout losing weight so I would also say it's really hard to understand these women....
