does anyone use android apps for GPS tracking while running/biking/hiking? I'm looking for a good one.. thanx in advance.
Hey Laura..! My wife and I have just started running. I am happy to say that i did my first full mile last night with the help of CardioTrainer in the android market. I am 43 and have always had light asthma so I never thought i would be running. Anyway, this app is free and its pretty cool....You can pay for a race yourself service on it if you like...We tried JOGGER too, the cardio app is better...Have fun...!!

I've been using sportypal on my windows mobile phone but they have an android version too.
It's also a free ap. It is easy to use, has a sleek UI, and lots of features. I use it for every run now.

I use Cardio Trainer on my droid. It works pretty well. You can even load your workouts onto facebook. I like that it also has cross training as well so you can keep track of that.

I tried mobile defense, and it works for me.

I haven't downloaded an app yet..but I think (thanks to this thread) that I will download the CardioTrainer. My question is....what are you using to "hold" your phone? Have you found an armband that will hold the Motorola Droid?
Thanks!
I keep my phone in a spibelt. The pouch stretches to fit your phone perfectly so that it does not bounce at all.

I have bought a spibelt also, I have it for couple of months, nice place to put my phone, I even crashed once, and my phone was not even touched. I just turn on Sportypal, locks a gps, put in my spibelt, and go for a ride.
Hi, I have the samsung moment and have downloaded the CardioTrainer ap and also the ap "runner". . . I have set them both to start at the same time and they come up with different distances. when I run the trails. When I run the road they're closer in mileage, but still not hte same. CardioTrainer sometiems will stop working, and I have to reboot the phone and wait for it. . .I had a problem with it for a while thinking I was near Australia.--and I'm in central USA.
(and the mileage difference is 1/2 to 1 mile).
this is one reason I am now looking at a heart rate monitor/gps tracker :-)

I use the spibelt. . . it goes around the waist and has a tiny expandable pouch.

Spibelt is nice choice, also there is zaphyr and polar bluethoth heart rate monitors.
I read here that SportyPal will have also HR support, so it will be good to try it with some of these belts.
I have tried runner and trailguru and both add a 2 to 3 mile length to my run. It just draws a diagonal line and messes up my mileage. I'm pretty sure I can't run a 1 minute 30 second mile like it told me I did!!! I'm going to have to try cardio trainer though with all these good reviews, as well as the spibelt.
If you are looking for a free app, try InstaMapper or Buddyway. They plot routes, distance, and speed as well as save historical data for future reference. I've used both and been fairly happy with each of them.

Sportypal provides apps for multiple platforms including Android.
Maybe you could try iSportsTracker.com
Also MapMyFitness is pretty awesome, as well.
