Hello All-
I'm always looking for more music to load on my iPod for my runs. I'm open to anything as long as it's high energy and makes me want to move!! So, I throw the question out to all of you... What are some of your favorite songs to run to???
My current top 3 are:
If You're Wondering if I Want You To - Weezer
Alive Again - Chicago
Good Morning Aztlan - Los Lobos
Meryl I may not be there yet, but I'm closer than I was yesterday. ~Author Unknown

I really like a lot of hip-hop/r&B that has a beat or techno music, even music that means something to me.
Some great ones I like:
Halfway Gone- Lifehouse (great beat)
Carry Out -Timbaland
In My Head- Jason Durelo
"When you cross the finish line, no matter how slow, no matter how fast it'll change your life forever"
- Dick Beardlsey "Spirit of the Marathon"
I usually play upbeat tunes to stay in the mood ![]()
My top 3 right now would be:
K'naan - Wavin' Flag
JerryC - Canon Rock
Uncle Kracker - Smile
My mp3 player currently holds about 90% music from the 80s and that is what I run to ![]()

04/28/12 Owl's Roost 3.5M Greensboro, NC 46:26
03/24/12 Race the Bar 5K Winston-Salem, NC 42:52
09/15/12 Dublin Half Marathon Dublin, Ireland 3:20:24
10/20/12 Hit the Brixx 10K Greensboro, NC 1:22:05
I usually get stuck on artists. Currently I'm going through Vienna Teng's stuff. I would definitely recommend her tracks, even though some of them may be slower than you're used to (I just run cut time to these).
I particularly enjoy "No Gringo," "Feather Moon," "Grandmother Song," and "Unwritten Letter #1" (it's is probably her most upbeat). Pretty interesting stuff.
Maybe I'm the outcast on this one, but I have a 'WorkOut_Running' playlist that has some select songs from;
Metallica, Pantera, Pennywise, Green Day, Goldfinger, Papa Roach, P.O.D., Bad Religion, Linkin Park, Rage Against the Machine, Ministry, System of a Down, Fugazi, and Drowning Pool.
But lately my favorite to run to has been;
Metallica - Death Magnetic
I like them specifically because they are FAST, agressive, and hard. And many of the songs are long (>4:30 minutes) and they help the running go by faster.
Oh and I also have a Christian Rock playlist but I only lift to that one.
Hi Meryl,
Have a look at my run2rhythm website at www.run2r.com.
There you will find musc that has been expecially composed for runners and with beats per minute that will match your running stride.
This is also a good pages to look at.

Running to music is the best. It doesn't make you any faster, but it somehow makes you run more, I don't know, purposefully. Nothing better that locking into a beat, and wheeeeee! For me, it is punk rock, the music of my misspent youth. Ramones, Husker Du, Agent Orange, Bad Brains, eighties hardcore stuff. More mainstream stuff I enjoy, though: Hives, Foo Fighters ("Monkey Wrench" has a perfect kick-butt tempo), Ramones--oh, I mentioned them already... For long runs, though, that punk stuff will kill ya. Go with Pink Floyd, Mogwai, Joy Division, JS Bach.
My latest downloads from iTunes...Carryout by Timbaland, Nothin on You by b.o.b, Airplanes by b.o.b., Billionaire by Travie McCoy, American Girl by Tom Petty, This Afternoon by Nickleback, OMG by Usher.
Freihofer's Run For Women 5k-6/05/10- 36:53
Altamont 5k- 8/28/10- 35:14
Race for the Cure 5k- 10/02/10- 33:21
"When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you, till it seems as though you could not hang on a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn." Harriet Beecher Stowe
I like to run to angry, loud, industrial or old punk music!
So, my playlist has Thrill Kill Kult, Skinny Puppy, Velvet Acid Christ, Combichrist, Ministry (Danzig days), Iggy, Front Line Assembly, Sister Machine Gun, some Sisters of Mercy, a little Metalica, and whatever else Pandora throws at me for the day.
My favorite songs are...
TKK - Daisy Chain 4 Satan
Skinny Puppy - Assimilate
Combichrist - Get your Body Beat
For me alot depends on the distance of the race:
5K's I want high energy stuff: STP Vasoline any thing fast tempo.
Marathon: Alot depends on the point of the race hereare some I like: Alice in Chains Don't follow, Shinedown second Chance, Suganland baby girl and always lot of tempations and tops.
Anything that has a good beat and keeps me motivated I have 74 songs on my list currently so that I don't hear the same thing every time I run. I listen to just about anything so my list is really varied, but here are a few I have:
The Who - Baba O'Riley
Michael Jackson - Beat It
Journey - Don't Stop Believing ![]()
The Pointer Sisters - I'm So Excited
Flo Rida - Low
Beyonce - Naughty Girl
Josh Gracin - Nothing to Lose

I have found over time that downloading mixes from iTunes or whereveer is soooo time consuming.
I discovered fantatsic running music at www.run2r.com which is a website called run2rhythm.
The music is great to run to because its beat is designed to match your steps - and it does.
Also it is qucik and easy to download.
It's the best.
