I just went running this morning. I run every day, basically. Lately I have been cross training as well.
My typical runs are 9-14 miles.
I have been feeling like my thigh bones.. or more like my pelvic region is pulling.
Well today, on my right leg, the pain is so bad. It almost felt as if my leg went numb. It feels like the hip/leg ball and socket are either over streched or collapsed.
I had to walk like 2 miles home too. How can I recover from this? And what may possibly be wrong?
Alot more background information is needed before an attempt to determine what is wrong, like your gender, age, medical history. The symptoms you describe could be related to musculoskeletal issues, but also could be related to viseral issues. Start with a visit to your primary care physician.

I am 21 years old, female..
I have been reading up on possibile conditions.. and I think(although I dont & hope not to be true) that its a Laberal tear. :/
I am no doctor, nor will I say I know much about the musculoskeletal body.. but this is what i have narrowed it down to.
My leg feels restricted in motion (although I am not sure if I am just babying it).
It also feels stiff around my pelvic/glute area when I go from a seated to standing position.. almost as if it wants to lock, or is trying to pull itself back together.
But on the other hand, it feels fine if i move/stretch the groin & hamstring regions.
However, if/when i bend down to touch my toes, pick something up, etc.. the coming back up to standing part is uncomfortable.
I have had terribly tight muscles prior to this..and stiff now that I am limiting my mobility extremely.
I go see my ART PT today.. hopefully he can give me some input.
I do not have health insurance right now, so seeing a doctor or getting an MRI are out of the picture.
I am so terribly scared and stressed about this because I do NOT want to have to undergo surgery, nor be out of running :/
This is actually starting to sound like a problem related to lumbar spine. Do a search under the term "spondylothesis" or "stress fracture in lunbar spine".

I just got back from my appointment w/ my Active Release specialist.
Turns out that its looking like my pelvic bone is out of alignment on the right side. It was/or has a great possiblity of being caused due to my tight hammies & quads which all connect to the hip, groin, and knee.
Im sure this is really hard to imagine, unless you are familiar with the way the muscles attach and work together.
Anyhow, it looks as if the attachments at my pelvic cavity are strained.
..so for now, im resting resting resting.
Does this sound like it could be a correct diagnosis?
From the description of the location of your symptoms, it sounds like the symptoms are affecting both the right and left side of the body with the right side being more significant. The explanation by your Active Release Specialist that the right pelvic bone is out of alignment is a bit questionable. I would expect the symptoms to be disctintly greater on one side of the body. Ask you Active Release Specialist can these symptoms be referred from the spine, also.

Not sure if you heard the old adage, but if it still hurts you're still hurting it. I know it's a drag but you're going to have to rest it until it's better. In my humble opinion! Been there, hated that...I know how you feel. Hang in there Oh, just thought of the bright side; because you're only 21 you'll heal faster! I know that's probably small comfort to you now.
Damien- Thank you so much. It does make complete sense to me that it could be stemming from the spine. In December I took a nasty fall in my yoga class (from headstand) and landed on my back, right side, right by my sacrum. ..and thinking about it, since that fall.. It has been injury after injury, mostly on the right side.. but sometimes on the left as well (due to compensation, possibly??)
I did shoot him an email asking if it is a possible spine injury.
If this happens to be the case, what does recovery look like?
Runner Chickie- Thanks for the encouragement. What helped you during your recovery process? did you do any other activity? What was your injury?
Im going kinda stirr-crazy because I havent had any endorphins or exercise for a few days now.
Hi Errnestinne; my injury was to my left leg (muscle tear) as a result of overtraining and it felt like it took FOREVER to heal, although really it was only a couple of months and I was able to do very gentle, short runs while I had it, and then very slowly built up the mileage again afterward over the course of a year. Cross-training was recommended to me for prevention, to strengthen my running muscles, and since I've been doing that I haven't had any more injuries although I've been told that every athlete gets injured, it's not a matter of "if" but "when". But I so know what you mean, motivation is not a problem with me either!! That's why it's so frustrating to be injured. But patience and following medical advice will really only benefit us in the end. Hope all goes well!!
Runnerchickie- Thanks for the encouragement. Its getting easier to cope with not running as time is passing.. but then there are the days that my mind is saying 'RUN!' hehe.
Im sure we all experience this, injured or not.
Where was your muscle tear?
Your injury is sounding too familiar to me.
Also, my PT has been telling me to start strength trainging & cross training for months prior to the injury as well. I did actually start doing it, but maybe i just wasnt working the correct muscles to increase my running stability and strength.
He has now suggested Kettlebell training. So once I am feeling a bit more strength in my injured area, I will get on that!
Good for you and your positive thinking, it will all work out for you. My left calf/achilles area was my problem. Interestingly, I was just reading this book tonight, "Run For Life" and it says that Active.com did a survey in 2006 that found that 90% of runners, cyclists and triathletes suffered an injury the previous year. 90%!! That's huge!!
