How do you actually feel

I'm not new to riding, did just over 10,000 kms last year. I've always wondered how other riders feel when they've really pushed it, like jumping for an uphill sprint sign, after having riden 50kms. Your heart is pounding and your lungs are burning, how do you feel the next day? Do you feel bonky, a little stiff in the chest around the lungs? This is not an over training question, but maybe over reaching......too far?

Hmmm....Usually I feel good after a tough day in the saddle. Tough for me are hilly rides or a fast steady time trial type of ride. If anything, I feel stiff in the legs for the first few moments out of bed and then loosen up as the morning goes on. After really, really hard rides or races, I'm usually more stiff as well as drowsy (not to mention hungary as all get out). That's about the norm for me though.

I actually feel pretty good the next day. Legs, chest, lungs, etc... all feel better than not having ridden to that level the day before.

My problem comes when I really push it. When I get up to Z5 (a, b, or c) I start feeling nauseated. I feel like my lungs and legs could do more but I feel like I am going to puke. I can't do anything more than a 10 seconds at that level. I end up poking into Z5 and then dropping to Z4, then back to Z5, etc... I do that for extended time and it's a really good burn. I just wish I could stay in Z5 for a longer time.

Generally, if you feel that way most of the time you should start with small doses of high intensity first- a few weeks before you put in a major effort. That is a sign that your prep did not fit your race or your type of efforts.you should also back off the hours when the intensity is high. build up. rest hard and reap the benefits of high intensity.

I generally feel stiff the next day but it wears off as the day progresses as long as I keep hydrated to facilitate the cells functioning properly. The hour or two after the ride I feel really good but pretty tired and I usually take a quick nap. After that I'm good to go.
