You have heard me speak about the value of "inner arrogance". Here is a great article about a player with "it".

Jimmy Piersall?
'You've got to play this game with fear and arrogance!'
'Right, fear and ignorance.'
'No you hayseed, arrogance not ignorance!'
Apologies to Crash...
arrogance?
who said... "God Himself couldn't throw a fastball by me."
???
then there is calm inner confidence...
(talking about how well he hits)... "Well, when you see a good pitch, knock the @#$% out of it."
???
Surely, God couldn't throw a fastball past Ted Williams. Am I right? What do I win? LOL
Has to be Reggie. He did say "I could pull a 747 if I knew it was coming".

Sorry...late to the question. It was Ted Williams who said that to an interviewer.
He actually said.."No one could throw a fastball by me. God Himself could come down from Heaven and He couldn't throw it past me."
And I had the pleasure, as a young teen-ager,being at Fenway, to see him and Joe DiMaggio play some of their best years at Fenway Park.
Williams with his year ending 1941 .406 batting average.
DiMaggio with his 1941.. 56 game hitting streak.
Got to hear those 1941 games on radio. No TV those days.
Red Sox fans were actually cheering DiMaggio on....everytime he got a hit.
