I am really in desperate need for an explosive first step. I am a 5"2 point guard and a freshman in high school and I need that extra edge to get past my defenders...if u guys can give me any drills, tips, workouts, that would be very helpful
Some great drills in the article above.
Beyond that, the best way to get a quick first step is to hit the gym for strength and power. Variations of squats and deadlifts are great, but do yourself a favor and get someone to show you how to do them properly. Do you have a strength coach at your school? If so, go see him or her and ask. For power work, some plyometrics can help, as can Olympic lifting like cleans and snatches. But remember these are technical lifts so you definitely want some help to learn them.
