Congrats CMRoss! I'm still hung up here with a chest cold. It seems to be clearing up, so tomorrow it is. And if it's a little tough tomorrow, that's fitting. It's 9/11 tomorrow & I'll run with my thoughts on those who died, those who worked so bravely throughout that horror & I'll run for those left behind... & for all of us whose memories are seared by the events of that day.

I was planning a run tomorrow anyway, although originally I'd planned a post C25K run. However if I wake up & my chest is reasonably okay, I'll be pushing it out to 4 miles or as close to that as I can.

I'm eager to join the ranks of those who can honestly say they've graduated from C25K.

Then, I guess it's time to gulp & take the training wheels off.

A friend recommended that I start taking glucosamine/chondroitin for my creaking knees and she said that it might also keep my knee from getting sore from jogging like it has been. While knowing everybody's reaction is probably different with this stuff, I figured it wouldn't hurt to try it out to see if it works by generating extra lube to the joints. Well, tomorrow is my graduation day. I'm looking forward to it.

    Congrats CMRoss!

Finished my first 5k this morning.  My time was 26:53.  I was really nervous but overall I enjoyed myself.  The race was manually timed and we just started out in a large blob with the 10k 'ers.  Luckily I guessed right and started myself in the middle of the pack.  I passed a few people and wasn't really passed by anyone so I just found a comfortable pace and ran by myself the entire race.  I am amazed that people run the race in 17 minutes.  I was proud of my 26:53 though, I started in the middle and finished in the middle  (57th overall out of 110 5k'ers).  I was 5th overall in my age group but until they post the results I won't really know how many 40-44 year olds there were (let's hope at least 6 of us).   The weather was beautiful this morning and everything was great.  Only one set back, I forgot my Ipod.  I'm not sure if this was a good thing or a bad thing, I probably didn't need the distraction on my first race but I think it does help me set a tempo.  Anyway, I will give it a try next Saturday.  Now I have a personal goal to beat.  Happy running to everyone!

thanks TG. Hope the knee is feeling better.  My mom has bad knees, I finally talked her into taking Chondrotin/Glucosomine (sp?) about a month ago.  She says it has really helped her.

Congratulations to all of you who have finished!  I am a little behind, planning to run W8D2 this evening.  I had a good run on Thursday, so I am feeling better about running and finishing. Maybe it was the fact that a mountain lion was spotted on the lake trail I have been running on. I spent most of the run looking for him. Then I had to leap over a pile of bear poop.  I was more worried about running into bears and mountain lions, then running. Anyway, I hope to remain on track and finish next week.

    Congratulations to all graduates!

Joel--that is fantastic!  You should be really proud!

Today would have been my graduation from c25K  so my neighbor and I ran another 5K  (we ran our first on Monday).

The heat and humidity returned from Monday's coolness, and this course was a bit more challenging.  This race did not have bib chips--I liked that system better.

I took 10 seconds off my Monday time and still feel like I haven't left it all out there/given it everything.

So, I guess now is time for new goals and challenges.  I am going to build distance/time and add in some hill workouts and changes in tempo to see if I can get stronger and fitter and hopefully faster.

Thursday evening I ran 45 minutes, that is my longest jogging stretch so far.  It was also the first time that I got a side stitch.  WOW, that really does hurt!!!  I tried things that I had read (deep breath in , blow hard out, land hard on the foot the stitch is one, slow down, etc...)  The only one I didn't do was the lay down on the side of the road and pull knees up over my head....didn't want the buzzards to think I was bait...

Keep going Shelly and dodge the wildlife...what a great incentive to run fast!  (Mountain lion behind!)

Congrats cmross and well done Joel and JBP.

We have beautiful weather here and I can't run I had a sport massage yesterday and am bruised today, it hurt soooooooooo much my teeth hurt from clenching my jaw afterwards. I am now bruised all down my ITB's apparently they are tight and one hip is lower than the other which has contributed to my sore hamstring. I hope it heals this week as I really want to run.

Hi everyone!  Well, I decided to run that 10k today.  It was a beautiful morning, if not a little chilly, and I arrived at the finish (to catch the shuttle to the start) around 7:15.  The race started at 8:00, with almost 3,000 people running or walking.  It was chip timed and I started 2:13 back in the pack, which worked well for me.  The first mile was all downhill (almost 200' elevation drop) and the rest of the course was almost completely flat.  And here's the best part:

    my time was 1:08:34, averaging 11:02 min/mile!!

My goal was to finish in at least 1:15, so I'm quite pleased with myself.  The other best part is that I ran the whole thing, except slowing down for water at aid stations a couple times.  I finished 232 out of 309 in the 35-39 age group.

My hips are achey and my right knee is a bit sore, but other than that (and being SUPER tired from not sleeping so much last night--too anxious) I feel great!  It was such a feat to accomplish, I feel a lot better about my 1/2 marathon in October.  It was really nice just to be part of an organized event to see how it all works.  Next week is the Komen Race for the Cure (5k) and hopefully I can get the rest of my family out to at least walk the 1 mile course.

One thing I did find, is that it definitely would have been nice to have a buddy there.  I signed up alone and didn't know anyone else (that I could find in the sea of people!) and I felt a bit lost and lonely, especially at the end.  I need to start recruiting people!!

Great job everyone, and keep up the good work.  I mostly feel like a runner...I think.

Congrats Danielle! What a great accomplishment.  I know what you mean about recruiting a buddy.  I didn't know anyone yesterday either (but mine was only a couple of hundred rather than thousands).  My neighbor found out I started running and he says he used to run 5k's and may be interested in running again so hopefully he will start soon.

Congrats to all you C25K finishers!!!! Yippeeeee! Great job!

I had a bit of a set back, got sick, and didn't do any running for 8 days. Wasn't feeling 100% today but decided to just go out and walk. Did 3.06 miles, with hills. Took me just over an hour, but oh well, there were hills. One thing I realized, I actually felt good when I was done, which I haven't felt well for over a week. Soooo....tomorrow I will go run-you all are witnessing me say (or write) this! Don't let me slack-I am not sick anymore. I think I was on week 8 somewhere, but not too worried about that.

What are you graduates off to do now? A different training program? As I have mentioned before, I was thinking of starting over. I am the type of person that needs specific directions to follow, if I just go out to run with out that I tend to slack. I need another goal, even it it is doing c25k over to get my time better!
