What Now for USA Softball?

If you are interested in what the Team USA players have been doing after spending the past nine months on the road and winning a silver medal in Beijing... check out this article written by USA Softball staff:
Jessica Mendoza seems to be the only one working with softball internationally.
Do you think any of the young players would come back if softball is reinstated in 2012?
Maybe the girls can now become professionals in the field they went to college for. You don't hear of that much. I know Ms.Richardson is one.
Traveldude (SoCal)
they go get real jobs....
of course, some of them might already be ready for social security
You talk like there is no reason for a team. Seems to me there is still international play and a World Cup and Jr. World Cup every other year.
USA Softball doesn't disappear, it just lost one of it's venues.
Irishmafia, your right, It isn't the end for Team USA. There are many "Cup" tournaments to be active in. Team USA didn't just play 8 games every 4 years!
The USA players also do have careers they will continue in, and there are great opportunities in professional ball as well. There are currently 9 Olympians and previous National Team members playing in the PFX Tour and I think 4~5 in the NPF. Many have assistant coach positions at the colleges they played at, and others are looking at the Japan venue to play in. I hope they all continue in some form to help support the game all of us love!
How much will the highest paid PFX Tour player make this season (not asking for any names)? If that varies, what is your best estimate of the projected high and low salary?
As more teams and sponsors climb onboard, the salary continues to grow for the players. I like my job too much to be specific (heh heh) but for an average season with 10 stops (for the pro players, about 30 days a year with travel) the averages fall between 8000.00 and 15,000.00
The most important factor in selecting pro players for us is not only their athletic abilities, but their interaction with the kids at the stops. Our goal is to bridge that gap between our pros and the kids playing every weekend. Instead of hoping to get an autograph from across a fence, we get the pros and kids together on the field and during the tourney.
