Ha..you and me both except I could be your dad

Hey, first of all congrats on such an achievemnt as an 8th grader! That is a sweet time...keep it up and you will be All American and then some...

Secondly, if the 4:48 is your current PR, it will be extremely tough to drop 18 seconds in two weeks; unless you have a cylinder you haven't used yet. The only thing you could/should do between now and then is work on short sessions of speed/turnover at faster than 4:30 pace. But don't get hurt!

Of course, we know nothing about you and it would help us to know a little history and how your training has been going.

Re: Help Please
thanx i am workin hard runnin with waits doin alot of sprints 400's and stuff but mostly 600's i usually get out in a 66 first lap and usually finish around 66-68 my middle to laps r what kill me so i think if i get sum more upper body strenght it will help tremendously what do u think?

p.s. i currently hold the 7th grade state record for illinois at 4:51 i ran that last year i havent been pushed much u think that matters?

Not in two weeks. Lay off the weights and save your energy.

Focus on picking up your pace on the third lap then lay it down on the last one.

Great job! keep at it.

Also, take heed to the discussion on 1500 pacing. You are going out at 4:24 pace (a pace you have never been able to hold) and would be better off @ 4:40. I would keep that first 400m down to no faster than 70.

Re: Help Please
It would be really nice if kids looked further into the future about racing. Fifteen days you can improve a moderate amount, but if you had preped say 12-15months prior you would probably be really close to State-Regional running level. That is how you see other kids running so fast, a good 2-year running foundation built. Take this thread into consideration as your future running career builds. Train like Prefontaine 4-8milers every day, and occasional 10milers on Sundays. I wish I had a little more guidance at your age.
Good Luck.

Re: Help Please
That thread applies to you future. You are incredably fast as an 8th grader (13-14years old?). Hopefully you can keep it up. Wait till you hit 10th, and 11th as your body continues to grow, you will be lightning fast at 17.
