The Mental Side of Running

I was wondering what everyone thinks about as they go to the line for a race. Like how does everyone prepare themselves mentally for a really big race?

Think about the fundamentals: Breathing, proper motion, rythm, keeping the right pace.

Re: The Mental Side of Running
i personally dont think about running at all. I get a song that i can move to and let the song take me through my run. But that's just me.

Re: The Mental Side of Running
i am kind of like race4sport,
I get a kick *** song that keeps a beat with your pace of the race and visualize my entire race in my head! who i need to run with, what time i am going for, my splits! i think about what i want each split to be and what my goal is. If i can believe in my head i can do it, then i can!!

i would think that with a name like "mind over matter" you would have something a little more philosophical to say...

I think "Refuse to lose."...but in the same sentence, "Run smart, though."...I concentrate on getting out, getting good position, and usually the pre-race strategy I thought through beforehand.

I dont know but I think its a good philosophy. By Submitting, to the next 12 laps. Those laps are what you are comitted too. Nothing else, total submission to the task. Thats when it gets good.
