I want some workouts to improve my 400 meter time

Can anyone tell me of any? I want to improve my 400 meter time further.

Re: I want some workouts to improve my 400 meter time

I'm not a real runner (never ran in a track event) so i might not know the real workouts but I have brought my 400m time down a lot this summer.  At the start of the summer I ran it in 59.88.  I then ran 100m in about 11.6.  So i thought all i would need was more endurance and I should be running a 48 easily since my last 100m splits should be faster than my first 100m because i'm already almost at full speed.  As of right now, my best is 52.25 and this was after running that day ( I havn't ran it at full rest yet).

I guess (if you have the speed already) I would suggest doing what i did: running a lot of 800m a few 2 or 3 mile runs (usually under 6 min mile pace) , and a mile here and there. I also ran a ton of hills..short and steep ones at full sprint with only recovery getting back down to the bottom as quickly as possible without falling.

Well now my 800m is almost under 2min after I felt like i would die after one 60 second lap at the start of the summer.  If you think the long runs will take away your fast twitch muscle fibers then you can also practice your acceleration a lot like I also did bringing my 40yd down some to 4.61.

You can run the 400 in 52, as well as the 800 in less than 2 and have never run track?

Re: I want some workouts to improve my 400 meter time

i'm 19 and in college, i don't think my times are good enough for a D1 school...maybe if i went back to high school.  In high school i was small though so i probably was a lot slower.  Started running a lot in Jan. of this year.  I was already in pretty good shape from playin soccer all the time and I always ran for soccer just not as much as i have been this year.

My 800 isnt under 2 min yet but close.  Maybe my times would be better in a race and not just running on my own but still don't you need like a 45 or 46 in the 400 for a D1 school?

Well, I can say there will likely be few here to help you improve on 47.91.

I do find it odd that if you are at that level, you have never been timed in the 200; I mean for sure in practice you would have had to crack a few all out 200's.

Richie is one of Way Cool Running's resident liars. He's a streetfighter too. Ask him how they fight for pride and skittles or something. This kids a troll (I don't know if they say that outside of the CH or not).

If you truly run a 47.91 second 400 meters then someone would surely know who you are. If I really cared that much I could go to the Florida track and field site and see how many, if any, high school Floridians ran that time. I don't care to do it though because I know you're not legit, as I'm sure everyone else does. So save us some time and go do something other than bug us.

So Richie which one of those kids are you? CoachB this thread needs a lock thrown on it or something.

Hey runsforsoccer, I think you should start to runforrunning!  That's a really fast time for 400m.  Anyway, to answer the first question, maybe if you do some fast 800s you'd find the 400s short and be able to run them faster?  I'm no coasch, just an idea.

run for soccer  you could actually do ok at a d1 school, unless it is like stanford or villanova, but racing and timing yourself on a track is completly different. I can not even come close to hitting the times I have in races to timetrials on the track. If your like a 2:01-2:04 800 runner by yourself in a competative race you could do prolly 1:57 or so.
