JimmyDJarhead 500 - Doing our part

Jimmy,

Many of us were looking forward to being able to join you for the last miles of your 500 mile October journey.  Your journey is almost complete.

Fully understanding that the mission comes first, we have devised a plan to have you on course with us (In spirit anyway) for those final 26.2 miles.

There will be four of us running the Marine Corps Colors those final 26.2 miles to honor your 500 mile effort as well as honor and remember all of those who have and still serve.

The colors will be signed by as many MCM community members as we can get together in one spot to sign them.

We will each run a 6 mile leg and hand it off to our incredible support crew (Charlotte, Bill, Holly and Irene) to hand off to the next trailing runner.

Each of the color carriers has worn the Eagle Globe and Anchor.

Charlie, Nita, Myself and Chris will run the colors..........

Carl has put together all of the hardware required to carry the colors.

This has been and will be a collaborative effort by many of the members of this community.  Thank you everyone!

Know that we are there with you in spirit for each and every mile in "The Kuni" Good luck and Git Er Done!

Semper Fi Jimmy!

I'd be happy to accompany you, but I don't think you would want to go that slow.  Though maybe "rear security".

Agree fully Mike. Anyone who wants to join my merry group of travelers can find me at mile 26 about 5 1/2 hours after the start.  We can all run in together. Len, come on and join our "rear security" group anytime!

I'm not slow, I'm rear security.

Thoroughbreds run fast and finish early.  Clydesdales run slow and pull beer wagons.  I'll be a Clydesdale.

Re: JimmyDJarhead 500 - Doing our part

Okay so here is the deal.  I have still been having issues logging onto this beast over the past couple of weeks.  Some of it is the connections I have over here and other parts I blame on Active.  No big deal it is what it is.  I have had my own issues this past month or so trying to figure out a way to possibly get to DC and run the last miles on my own in my planned way.  I have promoted myself to a level that causes me to get good gigs and sometimes some not so good gigs and this one is one of those at times good goigs and at other times not so good.  My mileage has been rough over the past week and yesterday was a day that the towel was almost thrown in.  On my original plann I wasa going to run a full 26 miles all at one time and then move on.  Well my original plan had me being in the good ol' US of A by now too.  Here in the Kuni I had new and more substantial issues.  My wife works full time at the schools here and a part time gig for hallmark.  They received the Christmas shipment in this weekend and planned yesterday to set it all up and get the packages cleared from the back room.  She had a tough long day and it was my turn to roll fully back into being the best Daddy and husband she had at the time.  Well I ran early and at lunch and still had some more miles (more than I cared for) left for the evening.  Her plan was to work from 3 until about 8 but those plans like mine did not come through.  She didn't get home until 11:30.  I got my mileage in but it was tough.  I came home did homework with the kids made dinner and did the yell routine for them to shower and get to bed.  I then cleaned the kitchen and continued out the door to run.  It was weird as yesterday we took a cold, dry frontal passage of sorts and it was a solid 10 degrees colder then normal.  All in all it made for a rough day.

I say all this to say that I am super thrilled that this forum is so supportive.  The flag routine is wonderful and very well received on my end.  I love the collection of four you have running this thing.  I have a Corpsman, a female Marine, an Officer, and one of my peer members doing me proud.  This is one of the biggest things done on my behalf in ages.   From a proud member of the suck it up club OORAH!!!!

PS  Do I have to run today?

    This place is like home!!!!

If I could GET to mile 26 in 5 1/2 hours, I'd be right there with you.

I will be the symbolic "leave no man behind" coming in some 40 minutes later. Sigh.

Mike - awesome plan! Great work putting this together. I can't wait to see pictures. I wish I could be there to help in the rear escort area but I can't. As it works out though I do have a 20 miler planned that day so we will all be running together in a way. Jimmy - you got this. My dear ol' Dad (a Devil Dog himself) always said, "There are two ways to do things: my way or my other way." As a Marine, the "highway" option never entered his mind as it was a failure of completion or a loss of control over the outcome. We must be flexible, he taught me, as we take the hill for changing conditions, but the mission and achievement of the objective is the most important thing in life. I have always found Marines to be particularly adept at that kind of thinking and as the wife and daughter of U.S. Marines I have attempted to emulate these values and teach them to my daughter. So Jimmy - I have absolutely no doubt that you will achieve your objective. We are with you. I am so proud to be a fan, a supporter, and a fellow runner. Semper Fi, Jimmy. <3, Bec.

This is the kind of thing I really enjoy about this site and all of the support runner's give one another.  I don't post here regularly, but I do read pretty much every day.  I will definitely be on the lookout for this and hopefully get a meet a few folks along the way.  If all goes to plan, I should be finishing up right around the 5 1/2 hour mark.
