Death Cab for Cutie
C25K 3/23/10 - 5/20/10
Broad Run 5K Trail Race - 4/24/10 - 48:16
March on Melanoma 5K - 5/8/10 - 46:49
Race to Victory 5K - 5/22/10 - 44:03
Heritage 5K - 10/3/10
"He saves worlds, rescues civilizations, defeats terrible creatures and runs a lot. Seriously, there's an outrageous amount of running involved." - Donna Noble, "Doctor Who"
I love trance. I run to it. It's amazing.
Jody Den Broeder remixes of pop songs
MSTRKRFT remixes of pop songs
and the trance around the world podcast #tatw twitter tag. Its 2 hours of straight trance every week. Its amazing. I LOVE IT. check it out.
Great stuff here! My wife runs a lot of marathons and I try to help by matching music to her pace w/ bpms. I also try to find songs that are inspirational, about running, or at least are fun w/ great beat (no "19th Nervous Breakdown", "Loser", "Blister in the Sun", etc.) I now have over 25 hours of music that’s focused on indie/alternative/classic rock, and power-pop but w/ several R&B, Hip Hop, even country-rock mixed in. A sample of some favorites are below (w/ bpm)…
Check it out more at http://www.remanents.com/blog/bold-pace-music/
Fire it up – Modest Mouse (172): Time to “Fire it up”…’nuf said.
Girl U Want - Devo (173): “Look at you with your mouth watering, look at you with your mind spinnin’”…face paced fun w/ Devo.
Friend or Foe – Adam & the Ants (184): Always good for a fun, up-tempo song, Adam Ant stands and delivers with “I want those who get to know me, to become admirers or my enemies”. Take a look around and size up the competition…”Friend or Foe”!
Strict Time – Elvis Costello (184): Listen to the King: “Toughen up, toughen up…Keep your lip buttoned up…Strict time”
Beautiful Day – U2 (136): Great start to a marathon…even if it’s raining, gotta believe it’s “a beautiful day…don’t let it get away”
The Way We Get By – Spoon (152): This Austin, TX band is one of my favorites for running music. This song was featured on the OC. “We go out in stormy weather…and that’s the way we get by”…just in case we have to offset “Beautiful Day”, you’re prepared either way.
This Year – The Mountain Goats (140): Can easily substitute “marathon” for “year” in the chorus “I am going to make it thru this marathon if it kills me”.
If Looks Could Kill – Camera Obscura (158): While “camera obscura” is Latin for “dark room”, the band is usually very sunny with lyrics that are always catchy, upbeat and very clever. This one just seems to be made for a good run w/ “you got to go” and “maybe I can make it better”.
Joker and the Thief – Wolfmother (158): Wolfmother sounds like a combination of The Scorpions and Rush and just an enjoyable power song w/ lyrics like “he makes his way across the land” and the chorus of “we are not going home”…rock on!
Salute Your Solution – Raconteurs (165): It doesn’t matter if Jack White is with The White Strips, the Raconteurs, or the Dead Weather, he always delivers. Just keep running and picture Jack mocking the other runners with “I got what I got all despite you, and I get what I get just to spite you” and encouraging you to “Salute your Solution”.
Daylight – Matt & Kim (166): A fun, up-tempo song w/ mindful running safety lyrics mixed in…”slip and slide on subway grates…these shoes are poor mans ice skates” and “i miss yellow lines in my roads”
Wolf Like Me – TV on the Radio (177): “My mind has changed, my body’s frame but god I like it…my hearts aflame, my body’s strained but god I like it”
Break on Through - Doors (185): A classic running song with nice, fast pace down the home stretch reminding you to push your limits and “Break on Through to the Other Side”.
Ballroom Blitz – Sweet (194): Just the start of this song will keep you going…”Alright fellas (or substitute ladies) – Let’s Go!”
Happy Hour – Housemartins (185): Gotta end w/ a fun song and what could be more appropriate, it’s “Happy Hour”…you definitely deserve it!
Amen to what Dan Peter said. TATW podcast by Above and Beyond. "Uplifting Trance" for a continuous two hours with a new episode each week. No playlist burnout. Because Welcome to the Jungle and Eye of the Tiger can only get you through tough runs so many times.

I love all kinds of music, more-so Country, but when I run I need something loud, hard and fast. This is a "few" songs on my iPod classic under my "Running Mix" and I set it to shuffle. Worded well for me on the Marine Corps Half Marathon last month and Beirut Memorial 10K last week. And I am always looking to add more music!! I think if I didn't have any music those runs would really suck...it helps my mind go blank and just run.
