What to wear?

I'm competing in my first race soon. It's at a pool and I know a wetsuite is not neccesary. That said, what should a male wear. I'm thinking I don't want to change between events accept for socks and shoes. What kind of shorts should I wear to swim, bike, and run in. Are bike shorts a bad idea because of the chammy staying wet for the entire race? Or is that chammy pretty important for a sprint distance tri? Thanks everyone.

Re: What to wear?
Jon,
I wear nylon running shorts with a lining. There is very little drag in the swim, and they are fine for the bike and run as well ... they dry quickly and don't require a change in the transition area.
I've seen a lot of guys wear bike shorts the whole way, but to me they don't look very comfortable.
Good luck.
John

check out some tri shorts
they look like bike shorts but only have a very small pad so you can run in it easily and it won't feel like a big soggy diaper. desoto, craft, zootsports.com and titanwear.com are all good brands. check the trishops online for deals this winter season.

Re: What to wear?
I did my first sprint tri last year and the swim was also in a pool. I'm a guy too and I invested in a two piece tri outfit from Louis Garneau. Very comfortable in the pool and it had a quick drying chamois which made the bike leg more comfortable. This also helped during the run as the chamois didn't feel like a sagging diaper when I hit the run. Matter of fact, the top and bottom wicked away most of the moisture from the pool while I was on the bike. Helped when I was sweating too. The good thing also is that if I do need to use a wetsuit, the tri-outfit is geared to being worn underneath one. You should be able to purchase one through any online dealer. Good luck in your first event and have fun!

Re: What to wear?
Well, you could wear jammers. They are skin tight and they dry fairly quickly and costs about 35-45 bucks. The one thing is that on the bike it may feel a bit uncomfortable; however, I have no problem with them. So, it's really a matter of personal preference.

Re: What to wear?
I wear a pair of Cannondale brand Chrono shorts in most of my triathlons. I have found that they dry quickly and provide sufficient cushioning for a least ten miles of biking.

Re: What to wear?
If you are at all serious, get yourself some tri shorts. They are available all over the place- online, tri specialty shops, some bike shops, even REI.

In addition to helping your race, I've found they are a great utility piece of gear. I travel a lot for business, and I can use them to swim, run, or even bike (there are many rental places) if the mood strikes me. The same utility carries over to the gym. I find they are great for yoga and work with the Swiss ball.

Remember: FINISH STRONG!

Re: What to wear?
Dude, get yourself a pair of tri-shorts. They are much like cycling shorts but with a thinner, quick-drying synthetic liner. Most every red-blooded american guy races in these. If you tend a bit more towards your European roots, then just give it a go in your banana hammock. I lived in Kona for many years, and the German guys would live in their speedo's- even while sipping on a latte at The Lava Java coffee shop. And to be completely honest, I have done sprint distances in my hammock without any issues. Good Luck!

I did my first Sprint tri last year (3/4 ocean swim, 10 mile bike & 5 mile run) and I wore jammers with no problem. There cheap and dry fast. Good luck.
