Track for new guy?

Yall...

I'm a new runner after switching over from cycling.

I'm looking to do some 5k, 10k, and perhaps a marathon. I'd also like very much to do some Track....5000 and/or 10000

I'm 38 years old and wondering if there are track competitions for me...or is this primarily for high school and collegiate athletes?

I still have alot of base building to do...so not looking to do any this year. I'm thinking ahead and trying to get a feel for what is out there.

Check local running clubs, too. One of the local clubs here (Triangle area, NC) has summer track races each week Jun-Aug. I plan on participating next year (didn't know about it this year).
