running with Weights

Running with ankle Weights on ur legs for a light 3 miles? Would this be good to do once a week to length your stride? Would it even do that length ur stride? Would it cause a injury?

Re: running with Weights
NO! Not advised. Too risky and unnecessary.
Do 6 X 30-40 sec. hill surges once per week. This will help your stride. Also, do walking lunges after one of your quality days per week.

Re: running with Weights
I'm curious as to how ankle weights would lengthen your stride at all.

Re: running with Weights
You would just be begging for an injury. Why are you concerned about lengthening you stride? If you want to run faster work on faster leg turn over. Weight while running ie ankle weight are not recomended it would not be a natural distribution of the wieght (like body weight). The best way to run faster is to pratcice running faster. Hills are awsome for this (up and down). GL

I would advise you not to do that. You risk an injury!

Re: running with Weights
heck no. Go ahead and schedule yourself an apointment with a doctor because your going to need one after you screw up your body like that. As much as people may try and get around and try to find other ways of being fast, the only solution is to eat properly, work on core workout (pushups situps) and put in the miles.

It's easy to be good, it takes much more to be great.

Re: running with Weights
Agreed. Mark down one more opinion of 'You'll hurt yourself'

And I apply that to either the weighted vest or the ankle weights.

Really, if you want to do a little weight training, lift.

If you want to get faster, run more. End of story. Change that 3 mile run into an 8 mile run, etc, etc, and 6 months later you'll be faster.
