I am currently training for the Miami ING half marathon ... and I have found that listening to music that mentions Miami will really get me moving on a bad day. It seems stupid and silly, but it works like every single time. My Ipod is full of music by Pitbull, Lil Jon, etc because they talk about Miami and when I hear it I know I cant give up!
What are some of your favorite songs to run to (either for beat or for motivational lyrics)?

Ready To Start by Arcade Fire -- Good one. They are such an odd band but I love to over analyze music and when I listen closely, I forget that I am tired.
The song that always puts me over the top when I am working out is "Empire State of Mind" by jay-z. It seems like it always times itself to come on just as I am thinking that I might stop early.
I am on Week 4 so the song I love lately has been Marathon by Rush. It is about running as a metaphor for life and it is around 6 minutes so I know as I approach the end, my 5 minute run will be over. The only problem is that I sometimes curse the guitar player for writing such a long solo.
Marathon link if you don't know it (it is a pretty obscure song even if you are familiar with Rush):

September of 2011 - Dutchess County Classic Half Marathon, Poughkeepsie, NY
I enjoy listening to anything with a fast beat, which is usually rock...and if I'm runing out some rage, Godsmack's first album is what I'll be listening to. Otherwise, it's the new My Chemical Romance or Neon Trees at the moment. Though when I'm on a treadmill listening to animal, it's hard to resist the urge to dance and thus go flying off the back of the machine.

Lil Jon could motivated me to do anything! All of his songs are like anthem songs. I'm not sure if you're a fan of Jay-Z, but his songs "What More Can I Say" and "Encore" really get me focused during a run. If you're looking to add to a motivational playlist, I would highly recommend the two. Hope this works! You should share your list once you've gotten enough feedback. I'd love to check it out. I'm trying to put one together as well.
