    Hi those out west:

How is the heat in Las Vegas the last week of June? I am going to a conference and there is a 5k fun run/walk at 6 am.  I don't want to roast....

NC - it will be "warm but dry"  but then so is an oven.  hopefully the fun run will be early in the a.m., but even then you should expect temps in the 80's to 90's.

Where in NC are you?  I lived in the Greensboro area for a couple of years and loved all of the trails in the area, especially Bur-Mil Park.  The Owl's Roost trail there is probably the nicest 6 miles I have run.  There are some really cool trail races in the area from 3 miles to an ultra (50M).

The key to Vegas will be insuring you stay hydrated.  The temptation to partake of adult beverages aside, the dry air and pumped O2 into most of the hotels will dry you out with you knowing it.  When there I just keep a bottle of water in my hand at all times.

    enjoy.

Guess you are suppose to list the stuff you have done recently:

    2010 Anthem 5K - 21:37

    2010 Rodes City 10K - 45:17

    2010 Columbus Marathon - 4:03:00

I'm evious of all of you in the warmer temperatures. We have had a very cold and snowy winter here in New England (-4 degrees yesterday). Most of my running lately has been on the treadmill which is really tough when you are used to going outside.

Bill, you have my sympathy.   I'm near Philly and have enjoyed a little more moderation in the winter weather, but have still had to learn to dress well to keep running outside.  More interesting to me has been the footing: I've come to appreciate the differences between loose snow, tracked up old stuff and tire tracks.  I am running in Vibram FiveFinger Bikilas these days, so I also keep a keen eye open for slush, especially salty stuff.  Salt lowers the water temp and can lead to frostbite. My toes don't mind cold but cold and wet makes for no fun.  The coldest I've been out in is 18 degrees with not too much wind.

I registered for the Lehigh Valley 13.1 Mile Race yesterday.  It runs on the 1st of May.  That should help a lot to keep my spirits up and my focus on my form and milage.  Everybody here seems so gung ho, it's infectious (in a good way.)

    Cheers all!

Mom! I comment on your other post, but want to say WoooooooooooooooooooooHoooooooooooooo! You DID AWESOME!  It sounds as though you had a great time and finishing under 3 is great! I agree with  you on the distance being very looooooooonnnnngggggg! I told my husband when I finished my first HM that I sure was glad that I did not have another 13.1 to go! I do not think that I could ever do the 26.2!

CBMom, congrats on the HM!  Loved your attitude.

My sympathies to all that got socked again w/ tons of snow. Fortunately, we missed it. Have I mentioned lately, how ready I am for spring?!?!?

Had a nice 3.1 mile run this am followed by yoga. I've been a funk this week, so really dreadred getting out, but,  it was fine once I got started.

Have a great day fellow masters.

coolbikermom:  Just read your report and I echo what the others said.  Congratulations on a great run!  You say now that you don't want to do another one, but that may be your sore quads talking.  You had fun, you finished and you felt good about yourself.

Also, you said "I'm not a runner, I'm a woman who runs".  I don't see the diffference between the two.  If you think that walking part of the way diminishes what you did, you could not be more wrong.

JosephTree are you in the Lehigh Valley area? I am. Good for you to run your first 1/2 one year after starting! I won't be ready for the Lehigh Valley Half by May (maybe November?). You will love the course though, it goes through some really nice parks. Do you ever run at Lehigh Valley Parkway?

    Nice time for Peeps Fest

    COOLBIKERMOM:

I posted on Race Reports; but thought I would chime in here as well!  Again; glad you had fun AND had a great time!

I am pondering doing an upcoming 15k/Shamrock Race early March.  I had so much fun last October doing my first Half; it's tempting.  I have not done any outside running; as the weather here in Northeast Ohio has not been (for me) very accomadating!  In the meantime; it's the TM; rowing; stationary bike & eliptical.  Have included couple days a week with weights.  I feel with all the great advise on this thread about cross-training; all thoes activities are to my advantage!

As I type; it sounds like sleet hitting the window...winter months; gotta love 'em   Spring seems so far away!!

KIRKT:  For those who don't know, the Shamrock Shuffle is an 8K race in downtown Chicago in early spring.  I have thought about doing it, but the weather in the past two years has been snow/rain/slush, with soaked shoes and generally miserable conditions.  It draws about 35,000 entrants, but the recent weather has reduced the starting field by close to half.  I hope this year is better.
