Re: Your "Can't live without it" gear

    great thread!

for me, it's a good tank top or sleeveless shirt with adequate neck room. i can NOT, by any means run in a t-shirt or a baggy shirt, or a shirt with sleeves... my throat instantly feels like it's being restricted in some way. i hate the feeling of fabric touching my throat while running. and sleeves make me feel at least 5 degrees hotter.

so the race t-shirts are reserved for yard work or gym wear on strength training days.

Re: Your "Can't live without it" gear

The only two absolute gear essentials for me are my running shoes and knee tape. If I don't have both of those, then I don't run. Everything else that I use during a run is nice to have, but I can either run without them or find a substitute.

What's knee tape?  I use one of those narrow knee braces on my left knee, is it kinda the same idea?

If you mean a strap to stablize the kneecap, it's sort of the same idea. I use two athletic tapes recommended to me by two physical therapists. They are used together; Cover-Roll Stretch (a thinner white woven tape) is the underlayer, and Leukotape-P (a denser support tape) is the overlayer. A few pharmacies carry them, although I usually get them on the web from a medical supply house. A major advantage of the tape is that it goes at most halfway around the knee, so it can't cut off circulation by being too tight. Also it stays in place and doesn't slip off through water, sweat, etc.

Re: Your "Can't live without it" gear

My Garmin GPS watch: I will not go running if I don't have it with me or if it's not fully charged.  I have actually woken up early, dressed for a long run ... stepped outside ... turned my watch on and it said "Low Battery".  At that moment, I turned around and decided to go back to sleep.
