Hey Garmin 305 users - I was wondering what settings you run when you race?
I recently got one for Xmas and love it - I have some settings that I like - but I was curious what some of you use
Do you use different Settings for training Vs A Race? Indoor Vs OutDoor?
I do not have the footbod so if indoor I use it for Hear Rate training prettymuch... But I am just curious as to what others do.

I have a 305 as well. One thing that I found that helped me a lot was to not use the "pace" field. Instead, set up your garmin to auto lap every 1 mile. Then use a field for "average lap pace". This is much more accurate. When I was using "pace", it was all over the place. I don't know if it was because of the movement of my arms when running or what, but it wasn't reliable. As soon as I switched to using average lap pace, it is much more usable.

I set it up for laps every mile. However, I also use the instant pace -- it helps keep my honest when I start to flag.
While I haven't done this, you could set up for shorter lap lengths for shorter races such as 5ks.

While others find it annoying and confusing, I like the Virtual Partner function. Keeps me on my toes and the run interesting. Have fun!

That's on your first page, though, right? You can customize other pages, too.

I have different settings for running, biking, and hiking (other). I'll asume you just want the running settings.
Screen #1:
Screen #2:
Screen #3:
I use screen #1 for most training runs and races, screen #2 for recovery runs, form work and treadmill runs, and screen #3 for other information that sometimes proves useful. Of course, I sometimes flip between the screens if, say, I'm curious about my HR during recovery run.
I use the following display on my 305:
I also set the autolap for 1 mile.
