Re: Tomorrow I am running...
thats a ton of mileage for a 5:30 miler. a 4:50 miler on my team is peaking at 50 mpw over the summer, to put things in proper perspective.

no you'll just hurt yourself. if by some miracle you DO pull off the 70 mile weeks, you will be doing it at such a slow pace that it wont be a good workout. and then when the fall hits, your legs will be so tired that running fast will be out of the question.

max at around 45 miles a week

Re: Tomorrow I am running...
Don't get too excited. I did so and when I didn't meet my expectations, things just sucked. Eventually, my entire track season went to ****, but thats another story.

70 mpw is very hard to do. Basically, it's like waking up early in the morning to do a 5 miler, then doing another 5 miler later that day for 6 days a week, then doing a ten mile long run. Or, of course, you can do ten miles a day every day.

I'm not trying to dampen your spirits. With 60 mpw I got to around 16:42 for the 5k this year sophomore from a 18:47 freshman year xc and no track season. This differs from evry person, though. Prefontaine ran 40-50 mpw in highschool when he set the national high school record for the 2 mile. Others do 120+ mile weeks and never see much succss.

Nationals is a very, very lofty goal, something you need a great talent for, and alot of hard work.
