Looks like we need an exterminator for the race reports thread.  The vermin are trying to take over.

On a happier note, our extended weather report is showing mild temps clear through the end  of the month with only 2 rainy days.  By then winter will be all but  over, so I'm thrilled!  Maybe all the cold stuff is behind us, and even if we get a little more snow & cold, it's bound to not last long that late in the season.  Yay!

Today I walked 4 miles at a very easy pace (since I've been experiencing some post-shingles pain  over the weekend and I had quite a big training week last week) before I watched Jeopardy, then felt so good afterward I did another 2 at a super easy pace.  It just felt good to be outside on such a pretty day.  Tomorrow if I feel good I'll shoot for 4 miles "not so easy."  I'm just playing it by ear.

    Chris:

I had an IT band injury last year in the spring. It took probably 6-8 weeks for me to get back to full training. I'm sure it is different in every situation but very frustrating. The doctor didn't put any restrictions on training so I just backed off and worked my way back up. A year later I have no issues with the leg. I have not done a half marathon but I was back up to doing some good ten mile training runs by the end of the summer. Not a fun thing to go through but have patience as it does (slowly) get better.

Laurie-Sounds like you are doing great. Isn't it wonderful how the start of spring energizes you. It (almost) makes winter worth going through to get to that point.

Couldn't agree more!! Yeah!  I live south of you down in Arkansas. the weather has turned beautiful! I am in my "self promised recovery" from minor leg injuries and this 60 - 70 degree weather is so tempting!  I have taken to walking with a few short jogs thrown in. It serves as both a test to see how my recovery is going and a way to hold onto the condition I have built up. It also gets me psyched up for when I can start back to running.  My dog is enjoying the walking a lot also.

Today's walk will be while playing 18 holes. Shoes aren't the greatest, but the varried terrain will be a stimulant to the lower legs. I started walking last summer to get in better shape for golf. It worked too well. By the end of summer I just had totry to run a mile. Couldn't do it, but it made me remember what it was like to be a runner. So in a way I have come back to the start of the circle.  I know its too early for spring, but the weather is so beautiful, outside is the only place to be.

Glad to see you're able to get out there again in good weather. 6 miles in one day is super!  Have a great day and enjoy your time in the sun!

Hi Everyone! Thank you all for the comments about my HM over the weekend! It was a blast! I rested yesterday and have my kickboxing class tonight and then I will hit the road again in the morning! I feel great! No soreness or stiffness so I do not see the need for an extended rest period before beginning my training for my 10K the latter part of March.

Jack! I am a golfer also!!! The weather is beautiful here this week! Sunny and in the mid 70's! Last week it was snowing and in the low teens. I hope to be able to play Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday!!! What is your handicap? You are doing the right thing by letting your injury heal before attempting to resume your training full speed.

Marie,Steve, Mango! Thanks for the congrats on the HM!

I have not had time to catch up on here, but everyone is doing so well! I am proud of you all!

    Hi Mimi

Wow, a fellow golfer.  My index is 12.7    It will probably rise a bit playing the rest of winter and early spring as the courses are a bit wet and the bermuda roughs a bit narly til they green up. My wife plays and her index is 17. She joined the ladies league last year and knocked about 5 points off yer index.

If you want to see where I play, google Hot Springs Village in Ar.  We are a huge gated community (as big as all of San Francisco!) with 8 courses all within 10 miles of the house. The courses are beautiful and challenging!   Moved here the day I retired. I love it!  Now if I could just find a few runners to share the roads and trails with....

Jack! I am a 12.6 GHIN! We could have a great round together since our indexes are so close! I started playing 4 years ago and I love it!

We play year round here, but this winter the weather has been unusual and I have not played as much. Also, with the training for the

HM, that took time away from golf also. My husband plays and he is a 7.2 Hcp. We play in alot of tournaments together and some couples outings. We are member at a private club and I have a group of ladies that I play with and he has his group of guys that he plays with, but we always have each other also!

You are so lucky to have all of those beautiful courses to play on! Hopefully when we retire we can move to a community like that. I love running and I love golf. I enjoy my running club and my golf club! I am ready for Springtime and faster greens!

Thanks, Bill, for the personal history report. I am looking forward to the appointment tomorrow and continuing with my training at the earliest possible moment. I guess if I can't return to the road soon, I may have to see a psychiatrist!

Hey guys!!  I've been off of here for a few months - too much crazy stuff going on.  There are a lot of new people on since I've read last and I can't wait to catch up.  I was wondering if anybody did the Rock & Roll in New Orleans this past weekend and is anybody doing the Rock & Roll in Nashville in April??  My daughter wants to do Nashville but I haven't decided.  I did it last year and it was tons of fun except for the storm that came in.

Hi Dyy!!!  Great job @ the Mercedes!!!!  My little running group talked about doing this one next year.  Did you enjoy the event??  We did New Orleans and it was great!!  Totally flat which is something we don't see much of in West Tennessee.  And you are planning on doing St. Jude??  Have you ran this one before??  St. Jude has my heart!!!  My first was in 2009 and was so moved, I got some friends together and formed a hero team and raised additional money for this past year's event.

Right now I am trying to improve my distance, my goal is to run the Southern Indiana Classic Marathon without stopping to walk.

Races keep me motivated, give a goal to try and improve my time, also I have got to meet some really nice people at races with some really great stories.

I personally feel the only way to trully gauge your progress is to run outside. The treadmil is a great tool I use it for incline training, I set the treadmil faster to improve my time and also I do not like running outside in inclimate weather.

Knock on wood, right now I am injury free, last year I injured my right Quadraceps and was out of running for over a month.

    Races for 2011

The Southern Indiana Classic in April

    The Chicago Marathon in October

I will look for a half to do in between Evansville and Chicago.

I started running in 2007 to lose weight, I have started a blog to document my journey from an overweight, out of shape couch potato to a marathon runner. I would appreciate any and all comments, critiques, suggestions, questions and constructive criticisms. My goal is to make my blog a really good runners blog.
