How do you choose what to run too?

I'm curious how people decide what makes good running music.
Do you go by the music's tempo or beat to use as a guide or help pace your run.
Do you pick something that's upbeat and motivates you?
Or perhaps you choose stuff you just like to listen too?
I'm still experimenting with my music to see what works best for me but it did get me thinking about how others choose their playlists - I'm a curious person lol ![]()
So tell me - how do you decide what you like to run to?

I choose music that will get me going, (Just do it) by the Peas or Jump ( house of pain) get me running fast. Then I listen to billy Joel for my cool down. Different music and beats have a different affect on my running.
What I learned is that when I listen to music for fun, I try and imagine if I would like running to it or not, then on my iPod or on my computer I'll get a playlist together and just try running to it, I've actually been suprised at what music I enjoy to listen to while I run.
I don't choose it so much as it chooses me. I put my mp3 player on random and let it play. I've been surprised by songs I never would have chosen for running. Bowie's Under Pressure comes to mind as does Simple Man by Skynyrd. Don't know if those songs are good for running or good for me at that moment in time.
I'm new to running. I completed the couch to 5K program on March 11th.
First 5k, Seafarer's House, completed April 2nd! 33:49
I think that's kind of my approach at the moment
I use random and skip stuff that doesn't feel right during the run - although I have been skipping the music on occasion or using only 1 earbud so I can be used to running without music too. Just for some variety and so that when I run in races I don't need it I suppose.
I do try to remember what feels good on a run though so I can eventually compile a specific running playlist for the times I feel like running to music.

I have been listening to metal while I run. Lately I have been listening to Amon Amarth. Training for the Warrior Dash and it feels good to listen to Viking themed Metal.
