hip & butt pain

This came totally "out-of-the-blue".

Went on a 4 mile run last night. Warmed up with a slow jog - 1/2 mile - felt ok. Started running and there was a slight pain in the front of my left hip. Didn't really get worse and seemed to loosen up a bit, so continued.

Felt a little stiff when I got home, took some Motrin. I noticed pain in the hip and low back going up stairs, but ok walking down.

This morning hip hurts in front pretty bad, low back sore, calf hurts, outside of ankle hurts. All on the left side.

I'm breaking in new shoes, and wear them every other run. I wore them last night with my orthotics, but I think the shoes are not wide enough. I run 15 - 20 miles per week and started running in July. This is my 1st injury.

Any advice on self-treatment, preventatives, anything! Thanks

Re: hip & butt pain
This injury sounds faguely familiar. I also have had issues with pain in my lower back radiating down to my right hip. After being nearly unable to run for my last two, I went to the doctor yesterday. I discovered my right hip is 1/4" lower than my left. And, I now have some arthritis in my hip. That throws everything all out of wack and causes pain lower. I would suggest begin with the doctor. I've been sidelined because of it. Hopefully it won't be for long.
