EXCELLENT HM Times for Kirk and for Chuck - I don't know if I'll ever get below 2 hr for a HM but you guys did GREAT!!
I'm so glad to be able to turn to this thread for support. There is a lot of inspiration, and yes some accountability, but it provides a great incentive to keep running.
Today I did a 5K race at 2PM - the weather was cloudy, windy and 47, instead of the forecast sunny 56. I did a 1 mile jog to warm up so that I could shed my jacket for the race. Today I wasn't out to set any records, cause I had a "medical issue" all week that didn't let me push me training very hard. I was doing this race for a great cause - a scholarship fund for the 2 small daughters of a 911 dispatcher. Their mother had been shot in a murder/suicide by the father. Very tramatic and sad.
But for this race I was well rested and the course was fairly flat. So I went out and ran a fairly consistent 11:48 pace throughout the whole race. With the higher weekly mileage (~20 miles) and better tempo and hill runs, I can feel my leg muscles getting stronger and the improved ability to push a steady pace in a race. I didn't wear my HR monitor, but my cadence stayed about 180 the whole time. I ran a little faster from 2.9-3.08 miles, but could not really accelerate any more for the last 20 yrd sprint to the finish line. Time 36:42 min (a 20 sec improvement in PR). 150 of 193 finishers. 1 (of 4) in age group.
The funny thing is, all week I'd been complaining to my DH that my butt hurts! LOL! I don't know if it is new muscles being used going up & down major hills, or from running stronger (vs. "jogging fast"), but my buttocks are definitely feeling it. I guess that's a good thing. Here is a picture of friend Charlotte and me after the race.
