    Re: My last run was...how was yours?

    Had to rush out of town on unexpectedly on Sunday morning to help my brother, who's suffering from pneumonia for the 2nd time in a month. His Dr. says he didn't fully recover the first time because he didn't rest long enough, so I flew down to make sure he does this time and to lend a hand with the kids while his wife had to leave town unexpectedly to deal with a family death of her own. Sheesh! Luckily, I packed my running shoes. So, I got the kids off to school yesterday, came back and laced them up. My goal was to get in at least 2 miles, maybe 3. I don't have a Garmin yet, but I took the route I used to take the kids to school, got to the street I aimed for and pulled out my Blackberry to check my GPS and see how far I had run: 3 miles! I smiled and feeling strong, started running back. As I glanced down at my watch, I saw that with about half a mile left, I was too close to finishing the 6 mile run in under an hour, so I pushed and landed on my brother's doorstep in 56 mins....a PR for me. Now in full disclosure, the route was flat--unlike my typical routes in Atlanta--but I hadn't run that distance since the 2010 Peachtree Road Race last July, so it felt pretty darn good to get that distance in that amount of time.

    My brother is getting better, but I'm planning to stay at least until he can get back to work. So, I may miss my 4/16 planned 10K, which is a bummer, but helping him out is much more important right now.

    Happy running, guys!

    Hey Bald_Guy! That's fantastic! Good luck on the marathon!

    @Leadville: Good going with staying motivated and pushing through that long run.

    @LemonaidLucy: I didn't read through the last several pages since I signed on yesterday but CONGRATS on doing so well on your half!!! All the hard work paid off and you look great in your photo.

    Got in 4.6 miles today. Weather was perfect! Light breeze, sunny, and the petals were gently blowing from the cherry blossoms around the lake. My legs felt a little heavy from yesterday's 5 miler but I just kept a steady pace and powered through.

    Re: My last run was...how was yours?

    ...Fabuloso!  I rested 3 days after my 10 Mile race of last Saturday (not entirely from necessity, rather due to conflicts involving the arrival of the American Shad in our local rivers.)  Got in a 5 mile run on the trail outside my front door and it was so sweet!  After the hills of last Saturday, the little things on my run were so easy I felt like I was flying up them.   My legs felt so good and strong I wasn't sure what was going on.  This is a good way to start my prep for 13.1 on the 1st of May, I think.

    Also, I decided that Spring has arrived because I went out to run without even thinking about what I had to wear to keep warm.  Hooray!

    Re: My last run was...how was yours?

    Nice run Bald Guy . Isn't Spring weather nice after that COLD Winter . I took advantage of yesterday's ideal weather and did a 10k moderate pace training run . It started well and ended well, but there was some pain in the middle . At about one mile my left front calf area started to cramp . I tried adjusting stride and gate to get rid of the cramp to no avail . At mile 3 my route turns on a gravel road . That's apparently what I needed . The cramp was pretty much gone in a couple of minutes and I was able to get back on pace . I had planned on 5+ miles but I talked myself in to 6.3 or 10k .  Time- 1:53.51 , Avg pace- 8:33 , Avg HR- 172 . Good Day .

    @LMWEL,

              Wow...its like the longest winter ...EVER!!! Michigan also surprises.

    @ALL

         Today was a fair day, no sun, slight breeze about 40F. First day back from resting from last Saturdays Half Marathon. Todays stats: Distance: 3.2 Time: 25.48 Avg. Pace: 7.97. Very good and refreshed. Only things bothering me is my lower back and the frond pads of my feet. Feel like I have a couple marbles in them. Looks like it may be time to run to rec and get some jacuzzi time . Anyways, thanks to all for the nice replys for the marathon. Now if I can just shave a few off my time for the one at the end of the month. BTW, if anyone has had this issue with there front pads of there feet, let me know. I would love to find out how to speed up recovery (besides resting LOL). Later all you running nuts.

    Re: My last run was...how was yours?

    I managed to sneak in a 6.4 mile run between the downpours. It's been a cloudy and cool day today. Dreary at first, but once I began running, I appreciated the cooler temps. Lots of long steady hills today. My big toe felt like it just needed to crack, and my knees weren't likin the decline after the hefty climb up each hill, but I felt good all over. It was a lot of fun! And now I see what you guys mean about the first 3 miles being the hardest. After that, it's smooth sailin!

    Ran my first 5k saturday and finished slower than I would have liked, laces coming undone didn't help. Stupid oversight on my part. BUT, ran again Monday and beat own personal best and it's been good each day since. YAY!

    Re: My last run was...how was yours?

    Hello Everyone!  Yahooooo!  It's been a long week.  It's getting warm outside.   Everyday this week the wind has been CRAZY (20-40 mph gusts).  The good thing is it hasn't been cold.

    Yesterday was a tempo run at 10k pace.  I thought I was going to pass out from heat exhausion.  Starting temps was 68 (F) w/80% humidity (ugg!).  The humidity was really getting to me.  It was hard holding the tempo pace, but I got through it.  Right about the time I felt like I had no more left to give it was time to slow down and go into my cool down.  Thank goodness.  I took a one hour yoga class later in the day.  Boy was that a nice change of pace.

    This a.m.'s run was a 45 min. recovery run at an easy pace.  Starting temp. at 7 a.m. was 67 (F) w/76% humidity. The 45 minutes flew by.  They were over before I knew it.  Tomorrow is my LSD.  I hope I can get out before the sun comes up and warms things too much.  It's supposed to be 90 (F) for the high here in DFW.  I'm really missing Colorado's dry, cool temps.  Oh well.  It is what it is.  I just praise God that I can run.

    I hope everyone have a great weekend.

    Live, love, run

    5K Race thApril  2011 Run.jpgis morning in beautiful St. Paul, Minnesota.  Time of 35:40.  Set a goal of 12 races in 12 months and this was number ten.  This race was to raise awareness of obesity related diseases and to promote a healthy lifestyle.  Many of the runners had lost tremendous amounts of weight and wore their "before" pics on their backs,  It was cool.  First run of the season with no ice on the trail and only a long sleeve shirt needed.  Yeah!

    30 mins of killer intervals on a treadmill yesterday.

    Here's me in a St Pats race only 1 min slower than last year.  6 months ago I had a bad accident, I was in a coma, not expected to live, brain damage, I lost most my vision and half my face is now titanium, yatta yatta but running totally is helping make my come back!   Oh and I do not need the eye patch anymore, I can not see well but you'd never know it.
