I use http://athlinks.com/ to keep track of all my results.  Type in your name and claim all your races.  If you have a common name, you will have to sort through some at first.  If any of your races aren't listed, you can add that race and the site will add it to your results within a week or so usually.

If you want to see what it looks like, here's a link to my results:

Glad (and sorry) to hear that other people also struggle with weight loss. Definately watching portion control is important, but I also think it is important to make sure that we are eating enough - and enough of the protein and healthy foods that we need.

I started running in June 2010 at 276 pounds... I lost down to 246 in October. I did gain a bit back when I was training for my first half marathon, but I was also losing inches as well. I was 253.6 at my first half marathon. My last weigh in was down to 247.2 but I have dropped 5% body fat as well.

In addition to just running, I added some cross training in the form of P90X ... and I love it. I am not perfect by any sorts but I am seeing measureable changes in my body.

Here are my 30 day pictures from P90X (warning fat girl - sportsbra)

Much love and encouragement to everyone working to shed extra weight here!  My mother has struggled with her weight my whole life.  I know it's harder to live with it than to watch it, but the emotional and physical stress does affect the whole family.

Today I managed to run 4.5 miles before the winter storm hit.  That was the best run I've had in weeks!  I can't tell you how good it felt to run on flat ground after that race on Sunday.

    Penguin shoes?

    Just a quick note:

In today's news paper, J C Penny has a  flyer.   In that flyer is an add for Men's Fila Skele Toes. I guess this  is Fila's version of V Five Fingers. They are $49.99

I  have never seen a pair in person and do not have a clue how they  compare to FF's, but thought I'd pass the info on for those that might  want to check them out. I am using my FF's around the house, to walk in,  and at the lake on the boat.   I am spending time in them to toughen  and strengthen my feet and get some ballance in my lower legs thinking  that some day I may be comfortable running in them.  The Fila's could be  useful if anyone else feels that need.  The FF's cost about twice the  price of the Fila's in the add.

    FWIW

Okay, we have the almond addict and the english walnut addict, so I confess I am the brazil nut addict. Despite their large size, so it is easy to count how many I eat, it is still hard to stop at a reasonable amount.

I'm not a penguin anymore, but I darn sure was when I started last year!  I'm of the school of people that says run because you love it.  when it starts being work and stops being fun, you'll lose your drive.  I lost 40+ pounds since August of last year.  I ran my first 10K three weeks ago with an 8:55 MM pace, which is light years ahead of where I was.  But I wasn;t worried about the pace or the time, I just got out there and ran.  I had been running on my own, no program or anything, for 7 months.  Never ran before that, but I fell in love with.  As a matter of fact, I just posted about a similar topic on my blog here.  Speed doesn't matter!  Just enjoy yourself and keep on running!

Hello! I have been watching this community for a while and decided to join today... I am a slow runner, I run 13:18 mm!!! (That means minute mile, right?) Well, I do it because I really and truley enjoy it, and I am sure my speed will increase with weight loss (I am 232 lbs and only 5'4'') and training, but I want to enjoy my runs too. Right now I can run a mile, haven't challenged myself to more.... yet. It is coming

Re: Calling all Penguins (slow runners)

Today I reposted a half marathon event on fb that's in june. A friend of mine asked me if i was going to run...i said no, b/c i can't run that far *yet*...wow, that's something i wouldn't have said for most of my life...anyway, she said she's never run that far either, but thinking of training for it...'WHY NOT" she says.

It kinda got me thinking, maybe i CAN do a hm by june...is this my next step into actually training, get some of my focus, discipline, and motivation back?

i did a 5.21 last week in 1:31:25 (only once) so if my calculations are right, if i did do the hm, i'd be done in 4 hours or so....such a long time...this race is put on by friends of mine...do i want to put them through waiting for me for all that time?

i will say this though, that since i joined the y in january, i've gone from not doing a mile without walking, to being able to run 5.21m, though i don't know if i'm willing to spend 4 hours running around the track at the y three days a week...lol...

    UGH,  DECISIONS!

Happy Easter fellow penguins! enjoy all the chocolate and food!

I know I am not fast but haven't got a clue what speed i do do.

The problem is I can't seem to walk very fast either so normally jog along to keep up with fast waking if that makes sense.

I am currently doing weight watchers to try and lose weight and have started at the gym 5 weeks ago my fitness level is going up  but since i started exercising my weightloss seems to have got slower and I am eating more! I currently weigh 208 pounds but have lost 21.5 pounds so far.

But anyway I am 38 in 12 days time and I have 3 kids and a black labrador and I live in hampshire in the UK.

I have only just done W1 D2 on the C25k plan.

    Take care

Re: Calling all Penguins (slow runners)

Welcome, Amanda.  Speed isn't as important as just building up a good base of commitment and endurance.  The speed comes with time.

I  just did 5.5 miles with average pace of 11:30 - which is the first time I ever sustained a speed under 12:15 for any distance.  I am in a local running club (which I highly recommend!!) and we were running a 5K race route to practice for next Friday's race.  One of the coaches pretty much stayed with me and encouraged me every time I thought I needed to walk.  She was right.  I didn't need it.  It was mental.  She kept me running and I got over the mental block that was making me walk even the 1-minute increments.  When I got home, I went and ran another 2.5 to see if I could sustain it by myself and I did.   It felt fabulous!

Anyway, it has taken me months of patience.   I am more interested in going distances than doing it fast - although this little increase in speed (still a penguin rate though) felt nice.

You can do it and we are all here with you.

Re: Calling all Penguins (slow runners)

    Conster,

Check out Hal Higdon's training plans.  According to his novice half marathon training plan, since you've done a 5 mile run, you are already on week 4!

    http://www.halhigdon.com/halfmarathon/novice.htm

You only have to do one long run a week, and my advice would be to get out on the roads and trails.  Doing your weekly long run on a track will make it seem like an eternity.  The time goes by way faster if the scenery changes.

Good luck in what ever you decide to do!

    Laura
