Magnetic and Cooper Bracelets: Use or Useless

A friend wears these and swears by their healing powers. I am to say the least sceptical. Anyone know the evidence or have experience. What exactly are they supposed to do.

They are a bunch of nonsense. Supposed to help with all sorts of things. Totally fake junk. For some people the mgiht think they help. Totally in the mind.

I agree Spankee. Also, it's one of those things where there are no negatives to trying! There have been several studies on magnets over the years and some have been quite positive.

I would say half of the studies come back positive and some negative, depending on which end of the magnet they test. ; )

Re: Magnetic and Cooper Bracelets: Use or Useless
I believe the idea is that the magnet will attract the iron in your blood, improving, or at least changing, circulation. This is why the placement of them is important. Whether you can draw the blood to the capillaries magnetically is a question. Theoretically it seems that blood should be able to be manipulated this way to some small extent. Maybe even beneficially. That said, stretching and especially yoga and tai chi will likely have more substantial impact. Though the magnets do as much as they can passively. True improvement in circulation will take work.

Riiiiiight . . . and there is this cream that you can rub on your thighs that will make your cellulite magically disappear . . . and don't forget the waist belt that will drop inches off your tummy.

Beyond the possible placebic effect, the only ones benefitting from magical healing magnets are the ones selling them to a gullible public.

Never said it would actually work. I just mentioned that it actually does have a plausible theory. There is currently no reason to not try it, other than an almost negligible financial investment and maybe looking a little silly as small objects keep sticking to you. Also recommended alternatives that have been proven to work.

Re: Magnetic and Cooper Bracelets: Use or Useless
Maybe there is something like this already, but it seems that the combo of a magnetic/copper & identification bracelet would be somewhat marketable...

They are purported to relieve arthritis pain. Do you have arthritis?

Magnets can be used for any type of pain actually. You can even buy little bandaid like stickers with low powered magnets on them for specific areas of pain. If you anyone is interested, you can email me and i can email you the link. (email in profile here)

Re: Magnetic and Cooper Bracelets: Use or Useless
useless for anything other than a placebo effect

they don't have anywhere near enough magnetism to increase bloodflow or attract iron in the blood. Heck an MRI can't even do it, and people think a wristband or insoles are going to do it? It's a total racket.

People in pain will spend anything and try anything to relieve the pain.
