Re: My last run was...how was yours?

I ran the Broad Street Run 10 miler for the first time and I must say, I've never enjoyed a run so thoroughly before. Being apart of 30,000 runners and thousands of people cheering you on along the route feels real special. I didn't hit my goal of 1:30 I was off a little at 1:32:17, however, I left it all out there on the course and it felt great. I can't wait until next year. Next up my first half marathon on May 22nd. Thanks for all the encouraging words I've received from several of you guys, it really goes along way.

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

Hi Rick! I recently took a part time job working at a running store and I LOVE it!!! I'm learning so much about all of the shoes and equipment that's out there including the Real Flex shoes. You're right! They're more of a "minimalist training shoe" rather than a bona fide running shoe.  We sell them mainly to people who are interested in wearing a comfortable walking shoe.

    (sorry to go off topic)

In other news, I ran 4.34 miles today around my neighborhood. I also went ahead and officially signed up for my next race, my first 10k!! Can't wait!

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

Thanks for the kind words, Marc. I'm older but mentally 19 (so says the wife) so I have to come to grips that I can't run every day yet and I need a little more recovery time during race weeks.

I enjoy reading all the postings here and I think thats going to get me off the fence about signing up for my first 1/2 marathon in Oct.

DSJ - I thought running with 5000 was exciting but 30000? That must have been a ball.

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

It's something about running with a large group of people (in the thousands) that really energizes you. I ran in the Kelly's 5k here in Baltimore and there were well over 4000 people. I can't wait to run in the Baltimore Half. That's going to be a massive race for me.

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

My runs lately haven't been in training for anything specific, but for my enjoyment, endurance, and to test my limitations.   I run on a gravel trail around here that does have some ups and downs, but not any extremely instense hills.  I am doing  Ruckus in July and possibly a 1/2 marathon in October.  A friend is trying to convince me to do a triathalon in November, so I suppose my running leads up to all of that.

So here it goes with my last run's stats:

4.16 miles in 38:20.  That's a 9:12 pace, which is just fine for me.  I'm happy with maintaining that pace for long runs.

My run the previous day was 8.1 miles in 1:17:46 which was a 9:35 pace and my first of that distance.

Oh, one last thing!  I'm partaking in a challenge called "100 miles in May".  As you can guess by the name, you have to try to rack up 100 miles over the course of the month doing whatever activity you enjoy: running, walking, biking, etc.  I challenge all of you to do this as well!

"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You're on your own.

    Upcoming Events:

7/16/11 - Pittsburgh Ruckus (Obstacle Course)

    10/22-23-11 - Myrtle Beach Run 5k/HM

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

Well, the marathon that I registered for last fall (and paid for - no refunds) was this last Sunday, May 1. I did not run in it. After letting my Achillees get better, there was not enough time to train. However, I was there. And, just for a little excitement, I was wearing a hawk costume! It is damn difficult to run in that thing! So, I spent 4 hours harrassing runners in the cold. The wind chill was in the teens (F)!!! The wind was terrible. You could see the pain on their faces. I was at mile 16. I was able to bring a smile to many cold, tired faces. I even got a few hugs! :-)

Why, you ask? I am president of the university MBA alumni chapter. We signed up to be road marshalls. I was the only one goofy enough to put on the suit and have some fun with it.

Maybe next year I will be able to run.

    Welcome back, Lucy!

Is there one next Spring? I hope to be in Germany then. Prague is close to Munich, right?
