You're putting your wife on a guilt trip because the Ronald McDonald House charity supported by this Saturday's 5K race gave us shelter for a whole month last year, and she's still trying to come up with excuses why she can't go with you...easter dinner?  give me a break!  order out for pizza already

Re: you know when you are a runner when . . .

These are great.  I can identify with most of these posts.  I think you know you're a runner when you start planning your day around your run, instead of planning your run around your day.

Also, when you go through Band-Aids like tissues,

and when you buy Vasaline in bulk (or body glide, take your pick).

nowirun4run, that's an excellent way to use a guilt trip--much better than ones people have tried to send me on!

Re: you know when you are a runner when . . .

I missed the last two days of runs due to migraine, sleep deprivation, and general icks.  yesterday i chose to get an extra hour of sleep, which my body really thanked me for, but which left me regretting the run not taken. :-(

so I'd like to add:    that you know you're a runner when you do what your body tells you it needs done (sleep) but you still obsess over the run not taken.

Re: you know when you are a runner when . . .

... you get a work trip to Oahu and the first thing you think about is how long is a roundtrip from the Hilton Hawaiian Village to Diamond Head, or as you're out running in the rain in Las Vegas and a truck drives through a puddle to get you drenched, all you can think about afterwards is how impressed you are with the waterproof-ness of your outer layer.

"...but which left me regretting the run not taken."

I am feeling exactly that way today!  And I have a feeling that I will only start to feel better after a run tomorrow!  Still can't believe that I am looking forward to a run.  Seems like last week I was struggling to run for longer than a minute.  Now I'm training for a 10 mile race and feeling so accomplished.

Re: you know when you are a runner when . . .

...every single t-shirt you own is from a race you have run and you have no intention of getting rid of any them

...you're driving and see someone running and want to stop right then and there to get out and run right along with them even though you JUST ran

...when you're running in the rain/sleet/snow/ice and any other act of nature not having to do with a natural disaster or lightening and think to yourself "these people driving must think I'm nuts, unless they're a runner themself"

...you're constantly thinking of songs to add to your playlist or ways to switch it up

...ice, anti-inflammatories and natural supplements become your BFFs

...you constantly hear from coworkers and colleagues, "was that you I saw running other day/night?"

Re: you know when you are a runner when . . .

you know you're a runner when:     people in your neighborhood beep their car horns at you so much you don't even bother to look to see who it is anymore, you just wave

you have more ankle socks than work socks and a lot of them are stained from blood

your toenails on your stupid second toe that's longer than the other ones are stuck in a cycle of regrowing and falling off

you have weird tan lines from your knee brace, watch, sunglasses, farmers tan on your arms/shoulders and that one around your ankles

you develop "runner's arm" that sleek, defined arm that just looks natural when bent at a 90 degree angle

I could keep going, this is too fun...

Your wrap your toe so that in case your toe nail finishes coming off you won't get blood all in your shoe.
