Women's new running Fashion

Ok gals, whaddya think of the new running skirts advertised in Runner's World?  Silly or not?

At first I saw the ad and thought they were the stupidest thing in the world.  Of course we must be fashionable while we are sweating - Let's have perfectly coifed hair and make-up and   make an imression in our cute little skirts.  But then I wonder...Tennis players wear skirts.  I just wonder if they will catch on or not.

Being as self conscious as I am about the size of my backside and the upper thigh area I think the skirt idea sounds like a good one BUT I have yet to try it out.  This is a good topic and I look forward to reading responses!

I have not seen the advert in the magazine, but on the other hand I have seen a skirt for over riding shorts.  This is a good idea if you are riding and also going somewhere after (somewhere casual!).  I can not see wearing anything extra while I am running because you get so darn hot!

The only place I like to go after running is into a shower!

I don't know about them...I saw someone wearing a skirt thing running last week and I thought, "you can't run in a skirt!" I definitely won't be buying a skirt for running.

It seems odd to me, but it would eliminate having my shorts bunch up between my thighs while I'm running...

I don't buy skirts for work or church, so I'm definitely not buying one to run in.  Give me shorts anyday.

Back in the day, Katherine Switzer (first woman to run Boston with an official number) took to racing in a skirt to draw attention to the fact that she was a woman...

Re: Women's new running Fashion

I've seen a few women wearing them at the gym.  There are shorts underneath, so it just seems like overkill to me; plus it looks odd.  But, to each her own.

I hope they make running shoes with heels next!

I saw the ad and thought it silly, but it would eliminate the riding up of the shorts. i think once it catches on i would buy one, but i do not want to be the only one with one! i look silly enough in my current running gear. i am definitly not auditioning for a fashion show!

no thanks. i think they're utterly ridiculous.

maybe we should wear bangles, hoop earrings, and have our hair in a prom night updo too while we're at it. !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/rolleyes.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/rolleyes.gif|border=0!

I'm not a gal, but I have to say ladies, I would love to see that style come back.

Why?

There's something powerfully feminie about it. Not sexually, though sexy. It's a refeshing look like back in the 70's or something. I like wearing semi baggy shorts and not the leggins for men. Although I dont have a problem someday getting some looser fitting ones for winter training in the future.

I dont have a mental question of ladies wearing shorts or tights at all but it skirts looks distinctly unique. I suspect that other men would like them too.

Re: Women's new running Fashion

I may be mistaken - but I think I remember seeing a picture Katherine Switzer after she won the New York City marathon and she wore a tennis dress in the race.  I think her attire was more of a statement then, after she was almost physically removed from the Boston marathon because of her gender - instead of an attempt to look fashionable and cute.  Maybe the designers at New Balance saw the same picture I did.  I went to an aerobics class where the instructor was wearing on - in that setting it seemed appropriate and really cool.  I might consider wearing one running just to hide my filly-sized thighs.

Re: Women's new running Fashion

I really like wearing little skirts when I play tennis as long as I remember to wear the special tennis underpants (read "thin bike shorts with mesh ball pockets on the sides")  The skirt allows for great, um, ventilation.  I have really been pondering this for a few minutes. Why not wear a skirt to run if the nice, thin, breathable panties are there?  In fact, I can envision stylish underpants with ruffles (in toddler-wear they're called "rumba pants")  Then, when we run in our little skirts and they flap up; everyone can see our cute little panties.  OR.... we could sell that space for advertising!
