Re: Women's new running Fashion
I was wondering about this also and it will be interesting to see if the trend catches on. I don't know if I'd wear one for running but I do for tennis and always have. I guess I could save money on workout gear if I didn't have to buy separate clothes for all my different activities!! I will always wear skirts for tennis. It's just a matter of comfort...not a fashion statement.

Doubtful I'd wear the running skirt but who knows? (Never thought I'd be running in the first place!)

Re: Women's new running Fashion
no way!....I don't wear skirts for the rest of my life, and I'm not going to be wearing them for working out. The other thing, if you think those things were going to cover up any behinds or thighs, think again....they were really short, and I'm wondering if maybe when you're running, the front would catch between your thighs and pull the back tight against your butt...doesn't sound comfy, and I think I'd be yanking on it the whole time.
Why oh why do woman have to have shorty shorts for everything? I'm constantly buying men's shorts because I don't like having the short, semi fitted shorts for woman, not comfortable!

There's a bunch of guys in my town who wear girls' lacrosse/field hockey kilts at local races.

Re: Women's new running Fashion
Lacrosse women wear those skirts and I would argue that any one of them could beat me up in a dark alley any day. The skirts don't look dorky on them at all. What about those awful bikini bottoms that some female racers wear -- ugh!!!

For biking, OK, I can see the rationale. Bike shorts are not terribly flattering. If you don't like bike-type shorts to run in, you're stuck running in looser shorts that chafe if you're going long distances. With a skirt (with the same underlining that the shorts would have), you eliminate the possibility of chafing. So I can see skirts catching on. Maybe not for me; I'm 42!

The first CR gal to try one of these out in a 10K, let us know how they worked out. Dare ya.

Sounds cute...but there's nothing 'cute' about running! lol...chaffing would become an issue, too...ewww

Re: Women's new running Fashion
Ugh! I have to wear a skirt to work, why would I want to wear one while running?? Can't imagine this idea will fly with most women. Bike shorts are an alternative to running shorts that cause road rash. I have shorts in all different lengths from Road Runners Sports, & glob up w/vaseline before my run.

Who cares about feeling girlie-girl when running???
I'm a very neat & clean person, but have spit & wiped my nose on my shirt in the middle of a run. Last week, I swallowed a bug & spit it out! Can't do any of the above in a skirt.

Re: Women's new running Fashion
I am considering getting a running skirt, primarily as a joke. My female friends accuse me of not being feminine enough, to which I reply, 'yeah, well, I can kick your a$$.' It would be much more humorous to reply, 'yeah, well I ran this morning in a f*$%ing skirt, in your face!'

Umm... anyway... I would have to try one on first - I wouldn't just order one out of a catalog.

I'm with you on this one. I'm typically very clothes/makeup/hair conscious, but when I run outside/at the gym I could, seriously, care less. I'm also amazed by the whole thong-while-exercising phenomenon. That seems SO uncomfortable to me. I'm can't believe guys may notice me when I run at all - I look terrible!

Re: Women's new running Fashion
Hi there,

With all this talk about shorts vs. skirts, I have a question.

What do you typically run in? I find that running shorts tend to ride up between my legs due to my fit - yet full - thighs. Does this happen to anyone else? Should I buy a larger size to provide more "wiggle room" or will this just make it worse due to too much fabric.

Thanks!

Re: Women's new running Fashion
I'm not sure what to make of this new "fashion" to tell the truth. I have yet to see anyone is a running skirt in my area. It will interesting to see if any show up in the Boston Marathon - I admit I sometimes look to see what's being worn. I can't see where they would be that easy to run in. OTOH, the shorter running skirts might be easier to run in than the fashion trend of the last couple of years of "shorts" that are baggy and practically knee length but are so low on the hips I actually have seen shorts slip down far enogh that it was apparent the wear had not shaved the bikini line -ewww.

It's hard to tell from the picture exactly how short these skirts are or how easy they would be to run in compared to what's currently out there. There was a thread a while back where someone said they had difficulty getting something to run in that was really built for performance, not fashion. I remember the standard basic running short used to be a full split short with maybe a one inch inseam - no rot restriction to leg movement and not a whole lot to bunch up, and the elite racers wore bikini-style bottoms that came up just over the hips - no worries about them slipping down, and zero restriction on movement.

Irunslowly,
LOL! I love your idea of the advertising!
"Why not wear a skirt to run if the nice, thin, breathable panties are there? In fact, I can envision stylish underpants with ruffles (in toddler-wear they're called "rumba pants") Then, when we run in our little skirts and they flap up; everyone can see our cute little panties. OR.... we could sell that space for advertising!"

Re: Women's new running Fashion
I saw a girl, out running, wearing one the other day, and it really didn't look that out of place. At first glance, you couldn't even really tell it wasn't shorts.

I'm just getting comfortable in short (but not too short) baggies, after running bike shorts all last year. One step at a time...
