Re: Women's new running Fashion
Hi all,

I'm new to the board and found this site via a Google search for a running skirt.

I bought a running skirt from www.skirtsports.com,[/URL" target="_blank"> and it arrived yesterday. I have yet to run in it but am planning on using it tomorrow in a trail marathon. Here are my thoughts so far:

I bought the "marathon girl" model. The lady I ordered it from (order fast for a 20% discount & free shipping, offer ends today) told me they run a tad small, so I bought a medium (I'm normally about a size 6-8). It fits fine. The fabric is nice, and there's a little logo (not sewn on, "glued" on) that says "triks" (skirt spelled backwards) on one side.

It has a low rise - meaning, it sits low on the waist, well below my belly button. It's a cute as can be.

The downside: The attached underwear (spankies?) are a little on the revealing side for me. I like my running underwear to offer full coverage of the heiny - and these spankies only cover half my butt. Maybe the makers figure if someone is going to order a short skirt called a "marathon girl", they won't have a fat butt? LOL.

Also, the crotch of the spanky is too narrow for my taste - about the width halfway between a thong and a regular pair of underwear.

Had I not paraded around the house all afternoon in my new skirt, I would have returned it and bought the skirt without the attached spanky. Oh well. I never learn.

What I'm probably going to do, is cut out the attached underwear and buy my own that fit better, that match the pink piping on the skirt.

The reason I bought the skirt is because, A) It was too cute to pass up B)a 10 pound weight gain on moi has rusulted in the unfortunate event of thigh chafing. I thought with a skirt, there would be no fabric to get bunched up between my two Titanics. C) to make my running girlfriends jealous.

I'll post after tomorrow and let you know how it was to actually run in. I think it's going to be fine.

Re: Women's new running Fashion
OK, so I am back from my marathon and the maiden voyage of my new running skirt. It was great. Made "watering the shrubery" along the way easy, it was cool and breezy, and the two titanics (my thighs) didn't get chafed from rubbing. The only downside I came across was when I stretched during breif stops along the way - if you're particularly modest, a running skirt might not be for you.

The attached spankies that came with the "Marathon Girl" skirt I ordered did not work well for me - crotch too narrow, and the spankies weren't cut full enough for bum coverage. So, I just cut them out with scissors and used my own undies.

The skirt did not get "hung up" between my legs in any way.

For me, it's a keeper.

(Oh and as a side note - my friends said it made me look slimmer. Not a bad thing, at all, since I currently weigh in at 140 and could definately lose 5-10 lbs.)

Re: Women's new running Fashion
I just gave in on ordered my skirt from runningskirts.com - I have to admin - it felt really good for my long run last weekend - there wasn't any fabric bunching between my lets and the low rise waist didn't feel like it was pinching. Got a few long stares, but It was even more fun passing the gusy in a skirt - haha! Their prices are pretty reasonable too - a lot less that other skirts I've seen.

I think they would ride up on me when I ran.

thats the beauty of the running skirt, they don't ride up like shorts do. I'm in my second season wearing one, and will never go back to shorts.

Perfect - you could keep your gels in the sporran, and no-one would bother you with a sgian dubh (sp?) tucked into your socks. We could get a CH tartan.

I have a couple pairs of the UnderArmour skort and I love them! Much more flattering for those with more ample hips and thighs, and very, very comfortable.
I ran the Cooper River Bridge Run in my skort.

Re: Women's new running Fashion
I really like the idea of the running skirt. I have to wear spandex shorts to prevent the chafing when I run but then I have to cover them since I never feel right in just spandex. The shorts I put over the top always ride up. So the running skirt with the bike shorts underneath made perfect sense. Bike shorts to prevent chaffing and the skirt to hide it. And like someone else said it does make you look slimmer. Some of us need that optical illusion!

Re: Women's new running Fashion
I bought tech fabric tennis skirts with attached bike shorts underneath. They rule. No chafing, no bunching, no riding up. BTW, they were on sale at TJMaxx and Ross. Bargain, cute, comfy. I also wore one in the Cooper River Bridge Run. Saw 3 others (all better runners than I!). Wear mine every day at the gym. Go for it.

Re: Women's new running Fashion
I just ordered one from Cabela's, of all places - it's made by Moving Comfort and has the bike shorts underneath. It was actually a little cheaper than the others $36. I grew up playing tennis in skirts and found them to be much cooler than shorts.

Re: Women's new running Fashion
I run in my tennis skirts - I've taken off the ball pocket and resewed it on "upside-down" to use as a gel/chapstick/etc pocket and they work great.

Will be wearing one in my trail marathon in May.

Re: Women's new running Fashion
I just bought a pair. My only critique is that if you load the side compartments with things such as your cell phone, your snacks, ipod, etc., the weight pulls them down, and I found myself constantly having to pull them up. Not good. Ultimately I had to remove the heavier objects. Other than this delicate issue, there was no rubbing on the inner thighs, as the skirt was airy and allowed the built-in underpants to easily breathe. It's also easy to chill your legs in cold water after a nice long run. Just hike up your skirt and you've got a built-in swimbottom! I have large quads/thighs/hamstrings and shorts always bunch up on me. I also prefer skirts versus shorts when I play golf - less constriction. Most likely I'll just take in the running skirt around the ab area and call it good. Not into fads, - I'll wear what I want to wear. I'm hooked.

I have really been pondering this for a few minutes. Why not wear a skirt to run if the nice, thin, breathable panties are there? In fact, I can envision stylish underpants with ruffles (in toddler-wear they're called "rumba pants") Then, when we run in our little skirts and they flap up; everyone can see our cute little panties. OR.... we could sell that space for advertising!<HR>

Ok, bike shorts under eliminates chaffing, but the advertising panties sounds like a winner to me! My husband refers to my rear as wide load...so would I get extra money for the extra ad room? I would pay money to see my husband in a running kilt! He's military and has to report to PT with running shorts and combat boots...as if those jokes weren't good enough!

Re: Women's new running Fashion
I have not bought one, but I am thinking about it. I think maybe if they are practical, comfortable and I look better in them then shorts, then why not???
