Tattoo commemorating my first marathon

I am running my first marathon in October and planning to get a small tattoo on my shoulder (female) to commemorate the accomplishment. One thought I have is Seize the Day in chinese symbols. Have you seen any great tattoos of inspiration or have any ideas for me?

You're going to run 26 miles and then get deface your body in a foreign language to celebrate the fact. Get a life.

Re: Tattoo commemorating my first marathon
wow. that's kind of a crappy reply.
I actually think that would be really cool. (As long as you don't get your boyfriends name tattooed really big on your neck or anything, it could look nice).
I don't really have any suggestions for you, but I think it's a great idea if the tattoo is tasteful. And the one you're thinking about sounds like it would fit the bill perfectly.

Re: Tattoo commemorating my first marathon
First of all I'm not into tattoos. But there is a guy who actually inspired me to start running the "double" at Pikes Peak who has quite a few tattoos. The most significant, to me, is he tattooed his calf with the Pikes Peak Marathon symbol and each year he's run it.

For what's it worth.

Myfirst: I think a tattoo is a great idea!! Does the marathon have a charity or logo that you could incorporate into your tattoo? Also, the date worked in there somehow would be excellent! Just be tasteful and not too large...
Let us know what you decide!!

I thought about getting a tattoo when I reached my weight loss goal but I got a leather jacket instead

I think it's kewl...wait 'til you finish the race first.
I also like those lower back tattoos....

I think it would be kind of cool to get the Olympic rings - as a "sporting" symbol of strength and courage. Plus the first Marathon was run in Greece, home of the Olympics (as we were told ad nauseum during the 2004 Games). Mostly though it should be personal, and be meaningful to you, and you alone seeing as you are the one who must live with it.

BTW are you sure you want to do shoulder - it might limit clothing options in the future (e.g. if you are going out for a formal evening...). I have a very small tatoo on my hip which can be seen only when I'm just wearing underwear, and though I love it, I'm thankful I didn't get it somewhere more obvious.

I'm not much of a tattoo fan (neither is my wife) but if I ever got one, it would be "26.2" on my ankle or calf.

Personally, I wouldn?t put something on my body that I wouldn?t put on my wall, but that?s just me.

It?s your body and your personal choice, of course, and congratulations on your first marathon.

hey thats cool! I want to get a stick figure on my upper thy, I am also getting the Kanji for the word Runner (an incomplte Kanji by the way they only have runne in terms of Longdistance runner or shortdistance runner so I had them write them out asked what symbol stood for runner, they showed me and I am useing that symbol I live in japan right now ) tattooed on my sternum.

One thing I would caution about though, make absolutly sure that the Kanji you are getting means what they say it does. If you know any Chinese people, it would be best to ask them to write out the symbol for you, other wise you may think you are getting "Seize The day" when in reality you are getting "Chicken five cents"

I'm always a big fan of a huge purple snake on the face, scalp and neck - subtle, understated, yet very cool...

I actually had the same idea, well, the day I get up the guts to run a marathon, I want a shoe with wings on my ankle to commemorate the race, or a yin yang (no reason except I like the significance). GOOD LUCK

Re: Tattoo commemorating my first marathon
I had thought of a shoe with wings with "26.2" under the shoe placed on the upper quad just under the running shorts, sort of out of sight, but always in mind.
