W7d2...fail

I've been lurking for a while, and today I guess I just need to know that I didn't fail terribly.  Went out to do w7d2 in the hot FL sun, and just could only do half of it.  I feel like a failure, and I'm so upset with myself.  I'm not sure if it was the heat (usually I go earlier in the morning when it's not sooooo hot, but couldn't today).  I just can't seem to count today, since I walked almost half of it.  Anyone else, get through this hurdle, or feel like this?

Thanks for the moral support.

Dana

The heat and humidity do that to me every time.  I wouldn't be too hard on yourself.  If you body is used to cool morning air, then it was probably in shock when you ran in the heat.  During Week 5, while we were camping, my wife and I did our workout in the heat of the day and it almost killed me.  We do most of our runs in the evening, even after dark if we can stay up that late.  We plan to do W6D2 tonight.  Hopefully, my 18 mile round trip to work on the bike today would wear me out too much to get it done.

Good luck and don't give up.  Try again when it's cooler.  Your body will thank you I'm sure.

Keep at it Dana, you didn't fail. Heat and humidity can be really, really aggressive enemies so give yourself a break. The important thing is that you got out there and tried to move forward -- keep doing that and everything else will fall into place.

    Re: W7d2...fail

Hang in there Dana!  I just completed W7D1 and learned last week that we all can have a "bad" run.  Maybe it was the heat, maybe you didn't have enough protein or enough water in your system.  Or it was just a bad day.  What ever it the cause, you didn't get injured and you tried.  The only real failure would have been to not go out there or not give it another shot again.

Good luck and get back out there

Dana, the beautiful thing about running is that you only fail if you give up and quit.  Just forget about your bad runs, go out and run again.  Dont worry or feel bad about walking its part of the training. Always go out running with a positive frame of mine and remember your body is stronger then your mind. Just dont let your mind to tell your body to quit.

One of my running mantras or saying as I run is  "My legs is stronger then my mind, let my legs do the running."  I learned to let my legs do the work and I have my mind relaxed and enjoy the ride.  In the end Im always surprised how far I go.

    Re: W7d2...fail

Wanted to add my comment that you didn't fail.  You had a bad day of running.  You will soon figure out that you will have other bad days of running in the future and the high heat and/or humidity of Florida had nothing to do with it.  There will be other reasons in the future which wil cause you to have a bad day of running.  The thing to do is to just sit down and let it fall off your shoulders and tell yourself, "OK, the next day of running will be better".  What you may actually need is just a day to rest.  You are still relatively new to running so your body is still getting used to it.  Listen to your body.  If it needs to rest give it a rest nd you will be stronger the next time you run.  You will see in training plans for other distances, 5K, 10K, half marathon, etc. that rest days are very important.  For the longer distances you will see that the last week or so before the race will call for tapering down, i.e., not running as much as the previous week.  It will present a challenge as most seems to think that they need to run more just before the big race, where in fact rest is more important.  Making a short story long, you had a bad day, you'll get over it and you will get back to following the C25K program.  Just don't give up trying will mean you are succeeding.  Good luck.

    Re: W7d2...fail

I run with a 20 ounce water bottle that has a loop holder in which I can place my thumb as I grip the bottle.  At first it was awkward and got downright tiring carrying it, but I am getting used to it.  For my long runs I switch it from one hand to the other, or I do curls with it as I run.  Lately to balance things out I have been carrying my iPhone on the other hand so I have something on either hand to hold.  There are many other types of water bottles you can check out, like those that come with holders attached to a neoprene belt.  I tried one and I didn't like the bottles going up and down as I ran, so I am back to my old dependable hand held bottle.
