late arrival with continuous batting order

So the last part of rule 4.04 says this:
"Also, if a child arrives late to a game site and if the manager chooses to enter him/her in the lineup (See Rule 4.01 NOTE) they would be added to the end of the current lineup."
Lets say we had this scenario.... During the first inning the team missing a player is on offense currently has 10 players and the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd batters are put out in order. durring the second inning the kid arrives and is inserted at the end of the "current" lineup. what is the signifcance of the word "current"? Does this mean the current lineup is 4,5,6,7,8,9,10,1,2,3 and the kid is inserted after the 3rd batter or is he simply put in the 11th spot in the order.
By the way I think I may tend to over analyze things.....

11th spot.
Thanks Rich, why do the rule writers need to insert the word "current" and not just say "inserted at the end of the lineup" or "inserted into the last spot in the lineup"...
Us over analyzers get in trouble with wording like that... Thanks again.

It's their way of screwing with the people who tend to over analyze things.

Couldn't you over-analyze "end of the lineup" to mean what you proposed at first?
How would you write it to mean what it means but in a way that can't be misinterpreted?
Instead of: "Also, if a child arrives late to a game site and if the manager chooses to enter him/her in the lineup (See Rule 4.01 NOTE) they would be added to the end of the current lineup." I would have it read like this: "Also, if a child arrives late to a game site and if the manager chooses to enter him/her in the lineup (See Rule 4.01 NOTE) they would be added after the final batter and before the first batter as listed on the official lineup." Does that work? Dan
"Final batter" from now? You can word play a lot with most things.
"After the last batter listed on the official lineup card" is about as close as I can get.
The current rule book verbiage works fine.
If the batting order is 1 through 10, it doesn't change throughout the game. So adding to the end of the current lineup means putting the player in the 11 spot.
Just because you're starting an inning in a different spot in the lineup doesn't mean that the lineup changes. It's still 1 through 10.
You're making it way harder than it really is.
I've seen the same question asked elsewhere. No harm in making it more clear somehow.
I am not making it harder then needed. I was done with this thread after rich first replied with the known to me correct answer in the first reply.
I was just entertaining his question of how I would write the rule to make more sense to me.
Thanks guys
