ING Philadelphia Distance Run

Posted by MarkMcG45 on Sep 22, 2008 9:43:07 AM

Hey all,

Over 13,500 packed the streets of Philly to run in the ING Philadelphia Distance Run.  I am proud to say that all members of "Team McGraw" who started the race all finished!!!  It was such a beautiful day in the city as the sun was rising behind William Penn who stands tall on top of City Hall.  The start of the race was fast as everyone tried to keep up with the front runners from Kenya and Ethiopia.  Even my dad's teammates Greg Luzinski and Larry Christenson ran the first 1/4 mile in support of our team.

It was a beautiful course that wound through the historical city of brotherly love.  We passed Old Independence Hall where the Declaration of Independence was John Hancocked and then ran around Washington Square then back toward the Philadelphia Museum of Art, out West River Drive, across the East Falls Bridge, and then returned along the Schuykill River via Kelly Drive to the finish line at Elkin's Oval.  Even after 13.1 miles finishers ran up the art museum steps with fists in the air like they were ROCKY!!!

I finished four minutes ahead of my goal @ 1:26:00 and then got to the fence to cheer on the rest of our Team members!!!  Jeff McMahon and I ran back to support team member Debbie Persoud, who despite being injured at mile 4 continued to run with heart and finish the race.  "YGB Debbie!!!"

We had a great end of race celebration at Rembrandt's in the Fairmount area of Philly....  We would like to thank them for hosting our victory celebration.  What a great warm up to NYC.... Here we come!!!  Hope everyones training is coming along well!!!

Thanks Mark and McMahon for coming back on the course and side-stepping the last 0.5 mile with me.  I could not of asked for more supportive or cooler teammates. See you in NYC.  YGB! Debbie

Hi Mark!

Congratulations on finishing 4 minutes ahead of your goal. That is awesome!

Being a part of Team McGraw is a life changing experience.  I know that through my participation, I  I have met some super dedicated and caring individuals.  I am blessed to be a part of this Team.

If you come to Nashville next April, maybe our paths will cross.   I'm planning on running the Country Music 1/2 Marathon.  It was a fantastic experience this past April.

Until then, be well, run smart, and all the best in NYC!

And like your Dad said,  "Ya Gotta Believe!"

Hi Mark,

This is Christine, the one above.  I just first wanted to say best wishes as you run your first Marathon in NYC.  I know that you will do well, as you've trained hard, and you have a positive attitude.  I teach Elem. PE, and I always tell my students before a game, or race, if you've prepared yourself, then your ready.  That's all one can do for themself.

Also, so happy to hear of those amazing Phillies!  They've waited 28 years for this Championship.  They are so deserving of it.  I know your Dad must be "beaming from heaven."

Thanks for your dedication to the Foundation.  I am so proud to be a part of "Team McGraw" and help to support it when I can.  I will be running in Nashville, at 1/2 Country Music Marathon, in April of 2009.  It was such a blast last year!

All for now.  Be well, run hard, and know that I will be cheering for you, and all of Team McGraw in spirit from my home in Geneva, IL.

Peace,

Christine
