Big Bear Baby

Posted by metoonz Dec 17, 2007

The thing I love most about living in Southern California is the weather.  The weather and the location - within a day you can be boarding at Big Bear and in the afternoon you can be blading on the beach.  I didn't get to blading yesterday but I did hit the snow.  The GPS is so small it fit in my jacket easily as did my little powershot making it a fun day of trying to board while taking some pics and a video or two.

Big Apple

Wow - Ain't New York grand in the winter! Tried taking a couple of pics with the GPS unit which didn't work out so well. When it came to uploading them into the program the GPS log advised a couple had registered. Unfortunately they did show correctly on the map - see below.

I happended to leave on the first day of what we were told was going to be quite the snow storm. Flights were delayed and in all my 7.5 hour flight gave me time to dream about the snow that would be falling in California - time to dust of the snow board and take my skills for a bit of a run.

I want my mother

Okay so it really isn't easy to show you the great features of the Sony GPS without an active link to google map.... you will just have to go buy one for yourself. I can't let the road trip with my Mum go without.....

It was a great trip with a lot of time to catch up in the car while driving LA - Palm Springs (Cousins Wedding) to Vegas (play time!).

The GPS is a great way to show the people at home in NZ where we went and what we saw. Dad came across for a couple of days. He and Mum went on a cruise to Mexico while I worked It was hard to convince him to spend the extra 3 days in LA a place he loves to hate - and takes great pleasure telling me why...

Never one to back away from a challenge I decided to show him the 'other side" of LA - where the sun shines, the hills roll and the experiences are endless.. Mission: to prove that LA is not just Hollywood and a concrete, flame ridden desert city.

First off we went hiking in the Malibu mountains (not near the fires) - to the Getty Villa, the canals in Venice and the Observatory. Where are the pics I hear you yell??? My camera battery went - so sad.

Off to New York tomorrow - nervous as to how the GPS will track in the city - will let you know.

So my Mum arrived from New Zealand last week.  Perfect timing to test the Sony GPS and camera as we planned to travel from LA to Palm Springs and Vegas.  I spent several days taking pics and ensured that the GPS was tracking - all was well or so I thought.....

After several hours of frustration and swearing my computer wasn't recognizing the "media device" and I finally called my IT guy to figure out what the deal was.  My computer was looking on the wrong driver and couldn't find the camera. easy fix....  or so I thought....

So I upload the images and GPS stats and try to marry them up (well the program does that) however now I am having issues with google maps......

I am sure once I get into the swing of this I am going to love it - but for now,  I am frustrated and very happy that I have put my Mother on a Mexico cruise so I can swear in peace...... for now.

Watch this space as I get the kinks out and show you a little bit of my thelma and louise road trip with my ma.....

Believe it or not - landing at LAX airport

Sleep and knowing where I am when I wake up

Home made food

Coming into work a seeing a brown paper package wrapped up with sticky tape (reads: cellotape to Americans)

Being allowed to ignore the ginormous "in" box as the brown box calls to me... "open me my precious"

Opening the box to find Sony loves me! "A camera, some clothes, a camcorder and GPS... oh my!"

MISSION: To concoct a clever way to communicate with cyberspace and my family in New Zealand on my travels and tribulations in the US of A and soon....... THE WORLD!

Now if I can just remember how to work these darn things.....
