Ever since I gave birth to my daughter 17 months ago, I've experienced some pretty embarassing problems in my "active" lifestyle. The first is incontinence. Yup, I have needed to wear a Poise pad on pretty much every run, and on long runs, change it a few times. Then, after I stopped breastfeeding and my cycle returned, my periods were also just leaky and much heavier than I remember in the past. No matter what tampon I tried, it leaked.
My period is scheduled to return four days before my first half iron triathlon, and I know a Poise pad just isn't going to cut it. I did some research and read good things about the Diva cup. I decided to try it this month and be as active as possible Here is what I found:
-No leaks. Not one. No pantyliner needed. I swam, biked, and ran the whole 6 days and not a leak.
-Here's the really crazy thing -- it solved my pee issue. This was a welcome side effect I found on a four mile run during my period -- not a leak in EITHER area. Well, I'm off my period, but I thought for my long run today I'd wear it and see what happened. No peeing. Seriously. 11 miles and not a leak. I am in love.
Had to share.... $25 on Amazon (post-childbirth Diva cup) and I feel like I can get out there again without worrying about bodily fluids.
Thanks for posting this!! I am a newbie runner--gave birth to a BIG baby 7 years ago and all the kegels in the world haven't solved my problem. I am definetely going to try this. Thanks again!
