How much do you pay for your gym membership?

i've never joined a gym before but they just built one very near my house - which is pretty cool since i live out in the sticks.  i have no idea if it is a good deal or not.

it isn't a "full-service" gym - no classes.  it has all the weight machines and several treadmills, elipticals, etc.  free tanning.  open 24/7 via key pass.  i don't know if there is a staff member there during day hours or not - i will need to ask when i go check it out.

their deal is $50 month for a family package.  i don't know if there is a minimum time or not.

$50 sign up fee

$40 key pass fee

sound reasonable?

That does seem like a reasonable amount.

I don't have a gym membership but I do pay for my daughter to have one. It's 30.00 per month open 24/7 but tanning isn't free.

dude, 24/7 access?  that's golden.  i only pay ~16/month (basic but good gym), but i'm the second person on the membership...and no 24/7...

Re: How much do you pay for your gym membership?

I pay $60.00/month for Lifetime Fitness. It's a little bit pricey but very nice gym, 24/7 access. Two pools, lots of equipment with no waiting. I can use the treadmill as long as I want, rather than 20 minutes if others are waiting as I had to do at LA Fitness.

The Personal Trainers actually look and talk like personal trainers and I get the impression they know what they are doing. The PT's at some of the lower priced gyms give me the impression there training came from Wal*Mart.

I pay 10 bucks a month.  There is no pool, no sauna, just your basic machines, freeweights and treadmills.

Mine was $300/year.  It's an add on to hubby's (never used) membership.  Several locations around town.  I go to the one with a pool.  They have limited classes, which is fine with me.  Generally, I'm the only one in the pool at 6am.  I've done the indoor track once.  Doesn't look like dreadmills are a problem.  I swim 4 days a week, so I'm getting my money's worth!

Re: How much do you pay for your gym membership?

We pay about $40pp for a local gym chain that has nine or ten sites that we can use.  It's more of a health club atmosphere and has lots of dreadmills, a pool, racquetball courts, and free weights.  I love their childcare and once a month they offer "parents night out" for $20/four hours.

I also belong to a Gold's which is about $40 as well.  It seems like overkill but I do use both frequently...I also used to drive to the first one at lunch, but with traffic it was well worth it to pay the extra $40 to use the gym that's five minutes from my office.

Mine is my farovite price.  FREE!

I use the gym on the base.  Full weights. machines, steam room, classes and a climbing wall.  The also put in a set of

rollers for my racing chair (treadmill for the racing chair). Althought it's the wrong type.

I do have to pay for pool use.  But it's a commuinty pool and it's pretty cheap.  $35. for 3 months ( I think).

$19.95 a month at 24 hour Fitness.  I've had it forever and they grandfathered me in when they bought the place from 24 Hour Sports.

Re: How much do you pay for your gym membership?

Well, free now--- but before that I was paying $8/mo (before I got a job there; lifetime member of Bally's.)

at the local Bally's the plans range from $18/mo to $50/mo.  The $50/mo includes nationwide access, 4-8 personal training sessions in the first month, free childcare, the ability to sell/transfer your membership to someone else if you are done with it, and drops down to $19 after 3 years....  IT has a pool, several raquetball courts, a basketball court, a indoor track, two floors of weights and machines, three fitness class rooms, a sauna, and two rooms of cardio machines with flat screen TVs.  Most classes included, but not 24/7.

Re: How much do you pay for your gym membership?

I have a membership to a boxing gym that is about $60 a month. With that, you're basically paying for the super-intense classes where they work you for 60 straight minutes until you want to go to sleep for a week. Plus, it has weightroom equipment, treadmills and all of the boxing equipment is available even if I'm not taking a class. It's gotten me in super shape so I think it was a good investment.

My wife has a membership at the local YMCA for $35 a month. Everything she would ever need. Once my boxing membership runs out I will join her at the Y and we'll pay about $60 a month for both of us.

I've heard that YMCA memberships are always a little cheaper because they are a tax-exempt organization. If there's a Y in your area it's always worth checking out.

Re: How much do you pay for your gym membership?

I pay about $65 for family membership to the Y near me. Some of the other local Ys are cheaper, but they don't have the same hours or facilities. Mine has pool, whirlpool, steam room, sauna, indoor track, two gyms, daycare, equipments and classes. Some classes have additional fees, but are pretty reasonable. It's not open 24/7.

If the gym has what you want and you use the facility, then it's worth it. I try to get to gym 4-5 times a week, so I think I'm getting my money's worth.

I pay $60/month for Lifetime Fitness-good clubs, lots of treadmills with no time limit (which is awesome), 24/7 and clean locker rooms that do not smell like locker rooms.  I came from the Y and paid more at the Y for less!
