You are what you eat: Rocket Fuel

Recipe: Rocket Fuel

2 boneless skinless chicken breasts
3 cups Brown Rice
1 can black beans

½ cup red onion
2 cloves garlic
½ cup olive oil
½ cup red or yellow peppers
1 carrot
1 cup broccoli
1 cup zucchini (optional)
1 egg (optional)

Heat ¼ cup olive oil, ¼ cup diced red onion, and minced clove of garlic over med-high heat. Add chicken breast and pan-sear.

Cook 3 cups of brown rice with water or chicken-broth option.

Heat 1 can of black beans .

Add chopped veggies to chicken. Let veggies soften and absorb flavors from the chicken. Add black beans and cover with brown rice. Mix together over high heat and package for leftovers all week. The entire list totals approximately $15. Bon Appétit.

Re: You are what you eat: Rocket Fuel

I half expected this post to be about adding nitroglycerin to smoothies. But I was reminded of the 'Cue the Training Montage' post on your blog. A double marathon trail was fueled by 'I pretty much ate a sandwich, an apple, a banana and some newtons and chased it down with cola after each loop.' It reminded me of an episode of Baki the Grappler, where the Champion of the underground Japanese fighting circuit eats the crazy junk food like a savage right after one of his matches. Then he goes into this comma like rest on his back, and his body becomes real hot. Some high quality Japanimation. Question: do you shake up the cola before drinking it to let the carbonation out? I heard long distance athletes do that.

Also, just wanted to point out that chicken broth rice is an excellent idea, if you make the soup from scratch. Chicken boullion cubes are mostly just monosodiumglutamate (MSG) and natural / artificial flavors, plus the dehydration process removes / destroys lots of the nutrients. However, if you buy a whole chicken and let the bones / other parts you don't eat simmer in water for several hours with maybe even some tubers, herbs and spices, the soup will be high in Calcium and other nutrients. That is the rocket fuel. Also, green tea, or most teas for that matter, can be used to cook rice. I just suggest not making too strong of a teapot, because it can overpower the rice.

My buddy the other day said 'Why do you eat so much nuts and seeds. You're like a bird." I told him that's why I can fly. Up, up and away.

Well, I guess your office needs to have a Baki the Grappler marathon because they're not knowin'.

As a world class athlete the body is hyper efficient at recycling
protein, catalyzing and synthesizing chemical compounds. The extreme
intensity of an ultra marathon, building a house, working a farm, 5.10+
climb, or death match requires much more energy (calories) to function
at the elevated metabolic rate. So as long as you feed the macchine, it
will go. The food is physical until an individual surpasses the
ordinary levels of human exertion. A resonating circuit of energy. I
have read Dr. Andrew Weil state that Calcium consumption is not as
important as Calcium absorbtion. Cola, refined sugar, hydrogenated
oils, and fast food may be considered junk, but it could save your life
if your starving. If you train like an anima, you are probably
starving, if even just momentarily.

identity and integrity. you know you're the man, shake the haters. haha. I'm sure there is mad politics at the Active Network as to what everyone brings in their lunch box. somebody walks by with a diet Coke as a colleague coughs uttering "aspartame". are those baby carrots organic? hmmm.

if I could make one suggestion to the mid-training diet I would say maybe try Larabars instead of Fig Newtons. but, I am addicted to Larabars. hahahaahaha. rock on!
