DP/Flex

I'm having a hard time figuring this one out. I have 10 players. PONY rules. If I put all 10 players in the lineup by using DP/Flex, am I gambling that nobody gets injured? For example, let's say my 4th batter is the DP and the leadoff gets injured. Do I now have an automatic out every time the #1 slot is due to bat, or can I put my Flex into the leadoff spot and the DP plays defense, thereby removing DP/Flex?

 

Probably stupid question, but thanks in advance.

    Automatic out. The flex is listed in the 10th spot and can only be on offense in the DP's batting position.

    No. The Flex can only bat in the DP spot (#4 spot). If the Flex is batting in the DP spot, this is considered a substitution. The DP is no longer in the game. You have just dropped from 10 players to 9 players.

    DP/FLEX is a good tool if you have 11 or more players, but it usually comes back to bite you if you only have 10
