I'm a new runner - started training in July and completed my first 5K on 10/30/10. I have my next one coming up on 12/4/10. I am overweight, which is why I decided to give running a try. I have a question for any experienced runners out there or anyone, really, who is in a similar situation.
I had knee surgery 2 years ago and was very afraid running would hurt my knee. However, the knee has been GREAT! My real problem is hip pain after I run. It's my left hip and it's on the outside part of my hip - not near my behind. It doesn't bother me while I'm running, but definitely afterwards and for at least a day or two following. It hurts when I go from sitting to standing and it's so intense that I actually limp. I've noticed that the pain subsides if I take a few days off from running. However, since I'm very serious about progressing with running, I don't necessarily want to take time off from running. I'm hoping to do an 8K in March. I'm not working with a trainer or any running group - I'm doing this all on my own with a little help from my sister, who is a triathlete. But, no one runs with me. I'm sure I'm not using proper running form, so I would bet this has something to do with it. I've heard people casually mention bursitis, but I don't know what that is or if that's even what I have.
Any advice? I'd really appreciate any information!
